Meet Tough Guy or “TG” as he’s known, he is a special little guy that was born with a condition called Hydrocephalus – water on the brain. We strongly recommend that interested adopters research the condition and speak with their vet prior to submitting an application for TG. Most puppies born with this die within the first few days of being born, but not TG, he’s a little fighter and has managed to survive! His breeder noticed that his growth and development was much slower than his siblings but he seemed to be managing fine, he still nursed fine and took to weaning to kibble however because his teeth weren’t big enough yet it took an extra few weeks, he was playing like his siblings and was otherwise a normal, just really tiny French Bulldog. Due to his immature size the vet decided to delay vaccines for another month, at 12wks TG was given a clean bill of health and received his first vaccines without any complications. At that time he was released from his breeder in to the care of 4 Legged Love.

TG was born on March 26th and is now 14wks old and ready to meet his new Forever family. He has been in foster care for a few weeks and is doing very well. TG is still only about 2lbs at 14wks, typically Frenchies grow to be about 18=20lbs however due to being born with hydrocephalus TG will be significantly smaller, we are guessing he will mature to be around 5-7lbs. He will need a special, understanding ADULT ONLY home. We strongly recommend that interested adopters research the condition and speak with their vet prior to submitting an application for TG. He needs a home with no children, he is good with other dogs and cats however he is easily injured by other dogs due to his size so he is better suited to a home with another small dog – no more the 7lbs or a home with no other dogs, he also likes to play with the cats but again due to his size the cats can easily injure him and he is easily mistaken for prey so extreme caution must be taken. TG should NEVER be left unattended with other dogs or cats due to his tiny size, TG is sure he is a tough guy but the house cats could easily drag him away or other dogs easily injure him playing too rough.

TG is healthy and growing but his growth is slower than a normal dog, he doesn’t appear to have any developmental problems, he eats, sleeps, plays and gets in to trouble like any puppy his age. He does need extra super vision and should most definitely be crated for his own safety at night and when left alone, he likes his crate and blanket. His eyes do bulge more than the average Frenchie and the vet has suggested regular re-wetting drops twice daily to help keep them properly lubricated – he will need this for the rest of his life. They can be purchased at any drug store and are just natural tears like any human would use. He is also on a free-feed routine rather than fixed feedings, because his little tummy can only hold so much food at a time it is important to make sure he can eat regularly to keep up his energy.

Now for the good stuff! TG might look different but anything he lacks in size he makes up for with big personality. AS far as he knows he isn’t any different than any other pup! He LOVES to cuddle with anyone. Everyone he meets tends to be a little hesitant about holding such a tiny and different looking little baby but instantly falls in love when he snuggles up and kisses your nose and sniffs your ears, he mushes his little face right in to your neck for snuggle time. But put this guy back down to play and he will drag toys around the room, collect them all up in one spot for himself, roll around in the doggy beds, wrestle with the stuffy toys and chew on your socks or toes. He’s constantly trying to get the other dogs in his foster home to play but they are not interested as they are older and more mellow. He will chase the kitty in his foster home but he doesn’t get to play because the kitten is a little too much for TG (he’d argue otherwise). He generally doesn’t bark but if you haven’t come to let him out soon enough in the morning you’re going to hear about it! He also snores! He dreams out loud too (but it sounds more like the kitten is sneezing). TG is more fragile than your average dog so unless he is on your lap and well supervised he should not be left unattended on furniture he could fall from and hurt himself. He’s started to attempt stairs but again, until he is a little bigger and he can go up and down safely on his own he should be supervised. TG loves to be with his person and would love to go to work with his new human. He really is pocket size and would just adore being carried about in a puppy pouch or bag so he can tag along with you every where you go. Just keep in mind, with his short snout he needs to be kept cool in the summer heat and warm enough in the winter chill. This handsome little guys is definitely going to need a bit of a wardrobe for the winter months! TG is crate trained and likes to sleep in his crate at night and when left alone. He currently is working on paper training but could also learn to go outside. Due to the heat this summer it has been easier to work on paper training. His potty training still needs work but he’s trying! TG could easily live in an apartment or a house with a fenced yard.

We feel it is most important for TG’s new family to be an adult only home though we don’t feel he would be suitable for a senior as he is unable to jump to a lap and he tends to get under foot often, a single person or couple is best – sorry, NO KIDS, preferably with no other pets though a small dog (7lbs or less) or maybe an older cat would be okay. You need to research the breed before you apply, Frenchies tend to have special breed requirements on their own, add to that the special needs for a very tiny French Bulldog! You should also research Hydrocephalus – water on the brain and speak with a vet before you apply. TG is a super pup with so much love and personality, we know the right understanding person is out there for him.
