Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is Suri, she looks like a 4 month old puppy but she's actually 7 months old and only 40 pounds!!! Suri was originally purchased from Oklahoma and was shipped to New York. Her owner had her for 2 months and then he abandoned her and his other animals. If it wasn't for family members Suri might not had survived. We were contacted by another rescue who told us of her story, they also said that she was having problems keeping her meals down and was very thin. The family that was caring for Suri did everything we suggested in order for her to keep her meals down. From what they told us it sounded like Megaesophagus. One of our volunteers went to see evaluate Suri and was shocked when she saw her. She said that she was only 40 pounds but it looked like someone shrunk her as she was in perfect proportion, it gave new meaning to the term "teacup" Dane. What she did see was a pup who had a strong will, was all puppy and was loving the attention she was getting. The woman who was caring for her said that Suri's owner crated her a lot and she refused to crate her. She also mentioned that he had taken Suri to the Vet but never got her diagnosed to see if she had Megaesophagus and financially she couldn't afford it. We had suggested that when she fed Suri that she gave her several small meals thru out the day and keep her elevated by putting her front paws on her knees so this would help the food to go straight down and then keep her in that position for about 10 minutes. She said that she was throwing up less using this method. When Suri came into MAGDRL we took her immediately to the Vet to have her checked for Megaesophagus. It was confirmed that she has it. She was only 40 pounds, had fleas, a urinary track infection and had urine stains on her coat. Her foster home brought her home and gave her 2 baths, she was such a good girl and she really enjoyed the toweling off part of the bath. They fed her a small meal and she started regurgitating it almost immediately. So they decided to build a temporary "Bailey Chair" but in this case it was a "Bailey Box"!! It worked...they made her meals into small meat balls and she was able to keep it down, Suri wasn't too crazy about having to sit in the box for 30 minutes after eating but after a few days she got the hang of it and could fall asleep in the box after eating. She's all puppy and loves to play with the other dogs in the foster home. She's doing really well and is holding down her meals without any medicines at this time.
