Life changes in the blink of an eye. The people you know could be gone in a flash. All of us are one illness away from a life altered forever. I know my Mama is going somewhere and I can’t go with her. We two will be separated from now on. I’ll pray for her and remember her for all her kindness. When it came time for me to leave, she touched me ever so lightly on the back of my neck and told me not to be afraid. So I won’t. If she’s not afraid, then neither am I. Whatever lies ahead, let it come. Our loving God will watch over both of us.

I think I am Savoy’s aunt. I’m not absolutely sure; there were so many of us in the old home, I lost track of whom belonged to whom. But I know Savoy is one of my family. We look just like each other: golden-brown, with big, amber eyes and brown striped tails. Abyssinian mixes, very sleek and special-looking. I am larger than she, a little older. I had a litter recently, and my babies are all weaned. Now it’s up to me to find a new home of my own where I can take care of my new person and teach them everything I know about faith and kindness. I’ll warm the couch and welcome them home each evening, keeping the kitchen clear of vermin and watching the birds outside the window. I may now and then dream of my old Mama and Papa, and the dream will bring a smile to my heart. They were imperfect but terribly kind, and they loved us very much.

I am now being vetted and soon I’ll be spayed, just as Savoy will be. So both of us will be first class pets, ready for adoption. With such a gentle attitude, I know I’ll be alright. And I know I’ll bring peace and love to my new home.
