Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dahlia, fka Mya at Philly ACCT, is one adorable little girl! She is only 41 pounds at 1-2 yrs of age! She is not only beautiful but she is super sweet to boot! She has faced a lot, clearly before finding herself at ACCT. She had her poor ears chopped off for one and she seems to have Wobbler's Syndrome which was the original diagnosis we thought we had for our special guy Dillon Pickles. Dahlia does show more clear signs of this than Dillon had shown. Dahlia was at high risk for euthenasia at the shelter because of her condition and because the shelter can't afford to really do anything for her. As soon as we saw Dahlia's need for help we got to work and thankfully have the most wonderful foster families in the world so Dahlia is going to get the help she needs with us! Dahlia does very well with other dogs, in fact she sprawls out on the floor and nudges her way over to greet new friends. Dahlia is also a complete ham and feels she is a lap dog, loves giving kisses and giving and receiving affection. Dahlia will need some vet care for us to have a clear answer on her needs and we will then need to assess what needs to be done to give her quality of life, at that time she will be eligible for adoption. If you are interested in adopting her when she is ready please email nepabullies@gmail.com. Adoption application, reference check, home check required. Upon approval adoption fee and signed adoption contract required
*Update* 8/30- Dahlia has officially been diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia. This condition makes her wobble around a little, but she is still a happy young sweetheart! While she won't make a great running buddy, Dehlia has officially mastered the steps! She wasn't expected to do this because of her condition. Yay Dahlia! Our special needs girl is ready and waiting for her forever home ♥ (But don't tell her she's a little different, she doesn't know!) Email Nepabullies@gmail.com for more info! Please share for her :)
From the foster: "Dahlia is a special little girl with tons and energy and love to give! She came to us with an undiagnosed condition that caused her to wobble, drag her paws, and lose her balance. She has since been diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia. . This condition basically means that she has an underdeveloped motor cortex, which means she struggles to coordinate her movements and also lacks in the area of motor learning. The condition is degenerative, meaning that it will likely get worse as she ages, but happily, she has improved vastly in her time with us! The doctor gave us some exercises to do with her that have helped a great deal. She has now conquered steps (which she was terrified of just a few months ago) and she can hold her own in play sessions with our other pups. With that said, whoever gives Dahlia a forever home must be prepared to commit themselves to continuing these exercises. Her condition also causes her to drag her front paws, which means she is unable to go for walks on concrete surfaces or roadways. We get Dahlia’s energy out by taking her to a local nature trail (softer walking surface) daily, and by play ball in the back yard – she loves fetch! Dahlia knows some basic commands and she is crate trained. She has never had an accident in her crate, but she does need to be bathroomed more frequently than our other dogs. We think this is due to her muscle control issues. She loves other kids, loves other dogs (although she can be a little too in-your-face for some), and she loves nylabones and balls! It might sound like Dahlia is a lot of work, but you can just see how much she appreciates her humans in those big eyes. Well worth it for all the love she gives!"
