Here's what the humans have to say about me:
I consider her to be the perfect kitten.
-- Friendly, affectionate
-- Easy-going, gentle
-- Very active and playful, but in a gentle way
-- Not a tiny bit aggressive
-- Extremely intelligent and very, very easy to train
-- Very tractable. Wants to please and do what she's told.
I rescue cats because the need is so very great, but I don't have companion cats myself. If I were young enough to guarantee her a home all of her life, no one else would have a chance to get this perfect kitten. She's that special!
CHARLENE'S STORY:
I walked in the house and heard meowing. This was a clear sign of a problem because I live with only a toy poodle and a bird, and we had no foster kittens at that time. I traced the meows to the furnace duct work in the basement, but I was not sure because the sound resonated. This was May in Ohio, and nights were still very cold. Over the next 40 hours, I tore apart duct work and even hacked the wallboard out in the dining room above, thinking the cries might be coming from there. Eventually, I got her out: a tiny little kitten. That tough little thing had survived at least 40 hours in the cold, bare duct work without a thing to eat or drink.
All the work and the damage to the house was worthwhile because
-- THIS LITTLE GIRL STOLE MY HEART.
-- SHE WILL MAKE SOMEONE A FANTASTIC COMPANION.
I hand-fed her until she could eat enough on her own. I feed and care for the outdoor neighborhood cats, trapping them and getting them neutered. I also raise babies who are orphaned or abandoned. She obviously came from a stray whom I had not yet caught to neuter.
In some ways, Charlene appears to be a typical kitten: cute, sweet, playful, and funny.
But she has several very special unique qualities.
- EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT.
Charlene is a little genius. She's been so easy to train. If you stop her from doing something
a few times, she does not try to do it again (major exception is getting on the kitchen table --
she really loves to eat, so it took quit a few tries to teach her to stay off the kitchen table,
which she does perfectly now) She learned her name so easily and comes on the run when
called. Her new family will be able to change her name easily by putting the new name right
in front of "Charlene", which she knows so well. She's also been trained not to run outside
when a door is opened.
-- GENTLE
Charlene is the most gentle kitten I've ever met. She loves to play-attack my hand, but she
does it so extremely gently. The other kittens whom I've bottle fed get too rough for my toy
poodle when they are about 4 weeks old. This precious kitten is always gentle
enough to play with my toy poodle. She does not attack. She just taps, taps, taps with
her hand.
Charlene would be wonderful for an invalid. She's gentle, yet fun and playful. She follows me from room to room. When I'm outside, she waits for me at the door and greets me when I come in. Sometimes, she curls up on my shoulder and pulls pins from my hair.
She likes to hide and spring out jumping straight up and spreading all 4 legs. That's her play attack. She does not make contact. She just makes you laugh.
She has had all the vet testing and treatment acceptable for her age.
Charlene has proven herself good with kids, dogs, birds, and other cats. I am worried that rowdy dogs, cats, or kids might be too rough with her because her play is so gentle. She is so sweet when playing with my dog.
She's shy, but never scratches to get away in fear. There was not even a whimper or a struggle when strangers gave her shots and drew blood for testing. Other kittens whom I have raised have raised cries of murder during vet visits.
