Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Moon is a calm, yes calm, Boxer. She is also petite. She is only 46 pounds and only about 21 inches tall at the withers. We have really enjoyed having Moon as a foster. She is potty trained and only gets excited rarely. She will bark when the other dogs bark or when she wants a special toy to do something. Although we do NOT recommend letting a dog roam without restraint, Moon did manage to get out of a gap in the fence and simply hung around in the driveway. She was not interested in leaving the property. She loves to cuddle, but she is not allowed on most of the furniture. She doesn't seem to mind not being on the sofa, but will climb with her front paws on our laps and take all the lovin' she can get. Moon is an ideal, ready-made family member. She gets along with all the other dogs in the family and of course loves to play with the one most like her. Toys that make noise are her favorite. She has not been toy destructive, even with soft rubber ones.
Moon is food motivated which is great for training. She sits quickly on command and often in anticipation of doing so getting her what we have. She will however stare you down with those heartbreaking big eyes and beg while you eat. We just have not been able to break her of that. She does drool a little while waiting for her dog food to be served, but not while begging for ours. In our household, all the dogs must go into a down position and wait while their food is prepared, set on the floor, and they are released. She eats in the same room with 5 other dogs and has no issues. Moon is reluctant to go into down without a food lure and is also working on holding her stay. The other dogs are being very patient with waiting for her. Considering she did not know commands when she arrived, she is doing very well. We have caught her trying to see what is available on the table/counter only twice. (She likes German Chocolate cake icing, just licked it...She just wanted to join in the Happy Mother's Day celebration afterall!). In fairness, I have to say the cake was near the edge of the table. She does not try getting into the goodies in the pantry or surf the counters normally. She has never gotten into the trash either. Moon really is an easy dog to have join the family.
Moon does appear to have an old injury to her front right foot. She uses it a bit a skewed. She still darts across the yard like a jack rabbit (this is done after going number 2). The only time it seems to cause her any trouble is when she first gets up from resting. She will limp for a short while, then all is good. Anyone with heel spurs will understand. You can see this in her video when she gets up while I am vacuuming. The vet has examined her and thinks it may be the result of an old injury to her ankle that resulted in torn ligaments. She does not have popping and grinding in the joint at this point in time. The vet recommends minimizing jumping impact to help protect the ankle and foot down the road. He sees no repair work to be done on it. She uses it quite well. Moon uses her front feet like most Boxers. She tends to grab and hold toys with them. She uses that right one a great deal for reaching under the sofa, that little strange angle helps her in that area.
Moon is having her spay surgery on 5/24. If she bounces back as we expect she will, she can meet potential adopters the weekend after.
