Hi Everyone!!
My name is Gus. I am approximately 2 years old, neutered and up to date on all of my vaccinations. Everyone tells me I am a small border collie but I don't understand what they are talking about. I am as big as a dog can be and not afraid of anything, er well, except for thunder. I do not like thunder at all. I have a really big heart and all I want to do is love my people. I was rescued from a shelter in Kentucky and travelled all the way to Wisconsin hoping to find my forever home. Please contact MBCR so you can meet me!
Gus
Gus is a VERY motion activated guy. He is triggered by almost anything that moves. This includes people, other dogs, bicycles...you name it. If it moves, he wants to put it somewhere. We are currently playing games to work on his impulse control as well as learning some new commands. Sit, stay, off and house. I am very proud of his progress. This morning he sat and waited for almost a whole minute before he heard "ok" for his breakfast.
Gus does know how to go potty outside, but if there are other dogs out there, he doesn't pay attention to what he should be doing. He will try to play with them rather than doing his business. I now try to leave him out by himself a little longer. This seems to be working pretty well. Once everyone else goes inside, he remembers he is full and gets to it. Since we started this, no accidents in the house!
We are also working on fetch. I don't think Gus really had toys before. He looks at them with this profound look and seems to have a sense of awe. After watching his foster brother fetch, he figured out that he is supposed to go get the toy. Giving it up is a whole other matter!! He loves the toy and takes it to go play with it on his own. He is still learning that playing with others is as rewarding, if not more, than playing by yourself!
After all is said and done, Gus is a lover. He will love you until the end of time. Even when we can't love, he says there is always time for love. His greatest passion is affection. He will skip meals if he can crawl in your lap and get a good ear scratch. I really think he should be called Casanova because everyone who meets him falls madly in love with his charm. When watching tv, he would curl up in my lap the whole night if I would allow him to. Even with the warmer weather Gus would rather pant loudly and be uncomfortable than miss an opportunity to be loved.
Gus is desperately searching for that person to call his own. He wants to be #1 in his person's life. He doesn't mind other dogs, in fact he does quite well with others, but he would really love to be an only pet. Because of his herding tendencies, Gus would not do well with a cat. Gus is medium energy and does not require constant entertainment. I would almost rank him as low due to his desire to lay and snuggle. Seeing as he is 28# and less than 18" at the shoulder, he is the perfect snuggle size! However, I suspect once he gains confidence he will become more energetic. We have a lot of work to do before we can consider dog sports or group activities. For now going for walks or runs through the neighborhood keeps him happy especially when the night is topped off with a soft couch and a warm lap to snuggle into.
