Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Delilah is an adorable (we believe) brindle Catahoula hound mix. She is about 5 months old and currently weighs 23 pounds. Judging from the size of her paws, it doesn't seem like she will get too big--under 50 lbs and maybe closer to 40.
She loves to plop down on the ground, roll over on her back, and have you give her belly rubs, while she grins up at you. She is a sweetheart who is well socialized and adores people, children, dogs, and cats. If you’re looking for a happy-go-lucky puppy, she might just be the one for you.
Delilah has a loving and carefree temperament and delights all who meet her. As expected with all puppies, Delilah is playful and energetic, but not crazy hyper. She knows when to calm down and considering her age, is surprisingly mellow around the house. Her favorite place is right next to you on the couch, or on her dog bed, studiously playing with her stuffed toys. She loves chewing on them but does not tear them up.
Delilah is in the process of being housetrained, though she will likely need a refresher course once she goes to a new environment. She is crate trained and sleeps in the crate at night. She knows “sit” and “no” and is currently learning “off”, “down”, and “stay”. For a puppy, she does well on leash on our walks, although she needs to learn not to cross back and forth in front of you and we are working on that. Delilah also sticks close when walking off leash (in a safe environment). She responds quite well to voice correction.
Delilah is a wonderful pup, but she is still a puppy who needs consistent training and discipline to help her understand what is expected of her. She can be a little mouthy or jumpy when she gets excited meeting new people (but not overly so the way many puppies can be), and sometimes she can play too roughly with other dogs, but she responds well to correction. She is very bright and learns quickly. Providing Delilah with affection will be the easiest thing in the world, but discipline and exercise are just as important to ensure that she is a truly happy and well balanced dog. Please understand that Delilah is still a puppy and needs your guidance to learn what is acceptable or unacceptable behavior. If you are unwilling or unable to provide consistent and proactive discipline and training until she learns the ropes, along with age-appropriate exercise, Delilah is not the dog for you.
Delilah has been spayed, current on shots, micro-chipped, and current on flea and heartworm preventative. Delilah is being fostered in Sacramento. If you are interested in meeting her, please send an email to request an adoption application, which will be reviewed prior to scheduling a play date. There is a $250.00 tax-deductible adoption fee which helps to cover a portion of the expenses of all our rescued dogs.
