This is TaiChi. He is 2 ½ years old and is a very handsome tri-colored, purebred Border Collie. The question that most people have when they see new Border Collies on our website is, “what happened that this dog needed to come into rescue?” Through no fault of his own or of his owners, Tai is here. It was a health issue that put the owner in a position where keeping Tai was not going to be for his best interest. I cannot begin to imagine how very painful it was to relinquish TaiChi. He was greatly loved, and there were a great many tears and prayers that went with him when last he saw his beloved owners. Letting go of Tai took a tremendous amount of love, and more courage than I think that I could have mustered to let go of my beloved Jax and Sissy.
I promise you that I will do my very best to give Tai all that he needs, to love him as though he were my own, and to find him the home that is a step closer to heaven than mine could be.
Tai arrived this afternoon after a week of temporary care. He has been to the vet for an update on his rabies, and his health is very fine. He is just a tad bit overweight, so he will be joining our Diet Club. Sissy is 11 years old now and is beginning to show a little bit of arthritis in the hips. I feel that she would do better losing just a couple of pounds. Jax, the foster dog who never left, who has been on a diet since he arrived here a year ago, has lost 25 lbs. He looks great but also needs to lose perhaps 3-4 lbs more. Me, I have high blood pressure and I’m hoping that losing 3-4 lbs as well will help. Nothing like having fellow “sufferers” when one needs to diet. :0)
I took this picture of Tai shortly after he finished his meal. He wolfed it down quickly, then scoped out the kitchen for more. Realizing that there wasn’t any more to be had, he sat down on Jax’s black Skinny Man, and looked up at me.
“Where’s the rest of the food? I’m ready for seconds.” I love his expression. He was dead serious. I gave him the universal open hands, palms facing him with fingers spread, and said, “All gone.” There was a hint of sadness as the thought sank in, and he left the kitchen to explore the rest of the house. Wait ‘til he finds out that tomorrow’s breakfast is going to be on the skinny side too.
Tai took the new surrounds in stride. He and Jax greeted each other politely, and after about twenty minutes, greeted Sissy. Tai has been calm and polite, didn’t get into anybody face or space and acts likes he’s always been here. He has been a perfect gentleman.
