My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lively Adult!
"Jaki" is looking for a new home due to human medical issues in his previous home.

Jaki is a great little dog, loves laps and sleeping with his humans. He is a 7.5 year old (born about Feb. of 2000), neutered, shots current, house, crate and dog door trained Dachshund though he will have an accident now and then if it is raining. He chases cats that run but enjoys the game, is great with dogs and kids over 10. He is just too active and strong for kids younger than 10. He lived in a home with a cat and got along fine with her as long as she did not mind being chased now and then.

(From his previous owner) Jaki is a lively, easy-going, affectionate little Dachsie. He loves going out for walks and can keep up to any pace because he is so athletic. He loves everybody and can run like the wind, so keeping him on a leash outside of his fenced yard is a good idea; he really wants to visit with everyone and explore everything, forgetting the dangers of traffic and getting lost. If he sees a cat that's running away from him...he's gone! He might not even hear you call unless he knows you have a treat for him. Inside your house, once he knows that he is safe and belongs there, Jaki will relax (preferably on the couch beside you) and spend hours sleeping near you. He loves to snuggle...either with you or another dog. Jaki only gets along with cats that are not afraid of him and that are his size.

Jaki weighs 14 lbs and is 7.5 years old. All of his shots have been kept up to date and he has no health issues. He doesn't beg for treats and it is easy to keep him at his healthy weight by only feeding him a certain amount. He tends to gulp his food if there are other dogs loose near him and then he sometimes chokes a little; it is best to feed him alone or in his crate. Jaki is crate trained and knows what a dog-door is for. He is house trained but can be forgetful, especially if it's raining outside. He needs to be reminded to go outside several times a day if he's with a stay at home human or walked in the morning and evening and crated in between if his human has to be away. He would be best off with another dog for company.

If Jaki sounds like he might be what you are looking for in a companion, come meet him and see if he agrees you are his new human!
