My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Killian is a 5 year old mismarked mantle female with natural ears. She's small for a Dane, only about 29" at the shoulder and probably only around 110 pounds. Most people are surprised to hear she's a Dane at all! She and her brother were surrendered from the only home they'd ever known, so she's been slow to adjust to the sudden change in her new life. But, she's coming along nicely and has really warmed up to the household after the first two weeks. She lived with other dogs (large and small) and is currently living happily with cats in her foster home (she pretty much ignores them, despite their best efforts to play with her). Killian is a very serious girl most of the time, and isn't much for playing with toys... she mostly just gets (happily) confused and bouncy when you try to play, but doesn't really 'get' toy-goes-in-mouth. She just started playing with a large fuzzy cat toy that has a rattle inside, so maybe this too she's figuring out. However, when her foster parents get home from work, she's a bouncy-bunny who's super happy and wants to go tear around in the backyard like a madwoman. She moves so effortlessly that it's easy to forget that she's 5! She's not very motivated for her own food, but begs every chance she can get (must have gotten lots of table/kitchen scraps in her past life!), so we're working with her on her manners. But, she's not a counter surfer or a garbage digger (except for eggshells from the compost bin), thankfully! Mostly, it's probably because she's a velcro-dane and just wants to be near you, and if you give her a few scraps in the mean time, double bonus! She loves snuggle time, and will happily climb into your lap if you sit on the floor (or the couch, if you let her). Killian was very timid for the first week around her foster dad, and is still cautious of new men who visit. She hardly barks at all, whether out in the yard, in the house, or on a walk. She walks on a leash well, though still needs a little work, but will happily walk or go on a run with her foster mom (again, hard to believe she's 5!). She's met one dog out on walks and was cautious, but met the other dog well enough. We'll have to work more on seeing how she is around new dogs-but she's pretty shy and aversive in general on walks. If we're passing a house with a dog or children in the yard, she will cross to the other side of her foster mom and wants to quickly move on. Though she came from a home with very young children, she'd probably do best in a house with calm, mature, dog-savvy kids-as she loud noises and quick movements make her nervous. Otherwise, she'd make a great companion for a home with older children or no kids at all, with or without cats, and possibly male dog friends (since she lived with them before). Killian is very eager to please, and is responding well to clicker training-if she wasn't so shy, it'd be easy to imagine her doing well in agility or obedience competitions. For a dog that doesn't bark, doesn't drool and gets along with cats-we can't ask for much more in a foster dog!
