Here's what the humans have to say about me:
6/15/12 - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!
Adoption Fee: $450
Fostered in Texas
Age: 2.5 years
Weight: 8 lbs.
6/14/12 - Simon saw the surgeon on June 4th and his legs have healed perfectly. He is still favoring the legs so the surgeon suggested 4 sessions of physical therapy. The last session is this Thursday and they'll give me exercises to do with him at home. He will also be scheduled for his teeth to be cleaned this month and then he will be in tip top shape and ready to join his new family.
We are proud to report that Simon is doing very well with his potty training and hasn’t had an accident in the house in weeks. He just wen to the groomer and had his hair groomed shorter to match the "surgery shave".
4/22/12 - Simon had surgery for bilateral luxating patellas (both back legs) on April 17th and the first few days were very hard on him. With a decrease in pain though, he began sleeping through the night on the 20th and finally tried out the new legs yesterday. We were so excited about this! Don't get me wrong, he's not chasing squirrels as of yet, but he is walking just enough to go potty outside. The squirrels will continue to get a reprieve because Simon is restricted to five minute walks several times a day for approximately thirty days.
Since yesterday he has taken advantage of the short walks! You see, before he started using his legs, he would get very upset when he couldn't take care of business during these "breaks". This says a lot about how the housetraining is going.
Simon is in a large pen in the living room during the day and in the bedroom at night. He gets plenty of hugs and kisses when he's not sleeping but he misses laying with foster mom and dad, playing with foster brother, etc. We know this baby is looking forward to being 100% recovered and better than ever in a couple of months!
Simon has a recheck with the surgeon on April 30th to evaluate his recovery and we thank you for all your continued prayers and support.
4/5/12 - SIMON IS HAVING SURGERY AND NEEDS YOUR PRAYERS AND DONATIONS. ESTIMATED COST OF SURGERY IS $3,000.
Simon had three seizures after starting the phenobarbitol so on March 30th the vet increased the dosage to 15mg (whole pill) in the evening and 7.5mg (½) in the morning and he hasn't had a seizure since this increase! We have our fingers and paws crossed that this dose will continue to worK.
Simon is so sweet and loveable, so much so that he has even convinced foster brother to like him! Simon loves everybody yet favors foster mom, he is a velcro dog and foster mom has to be careful not to trip over him. There is one exception to this rule and that's when he spies squirrels in the back yard! He has had a few booboo's in housebreaking and is improving a little every week. Simon is improving with vet visits too, even had a compliment from the surgeon at how sweet he was while getting x-rays. He does well at bath time and enjoys being brushed.
Bless this little baby! Just as he is getting an apparent break from seizures he has been diagnosed with bilateral luxating patellas! On April 17 he will have surgery on both legs and Dr. Beale (the surgeon) says he'll be chasing squirrels again after six weeks of recovery.
3/19/12 - Simon has started phenobarbitol for the seizures and will have a blood test in two weeks to check the levels of this medicine in his blood as well as the liver function. The phenobarbitol may be lowered or raised depending on the success of the current dose which a 15mg pill a day, half in the morning and half in the evening. The cost of this dose of med from the current vet is $21 a month. Simon will need blood test appx. one to two times a year after stablized on the phenobarbitol since it can affect the liver.
Simon has been started on heartworm preventative, which is Advantage Multi that the vet recommended since it would not trigger seizures. There is concern about certain meds, including anesthesia, causing seizures and for this reason the vet wants to wait until the seizures are under control before giving shots and scheduling teeth cleaning.
3/12/12 - Say Hi to Simon!
Simon was an owner surrender from a family that had just had a baby and didn’t have enough time to spend with him anymore. When Simon first entered his foster home, he had a seizure. When contacting the previous family to inquire if Simon had ever had seizures before, they informed that he did, but they did not have him on any medicine for the seizures.
Along with his other vetting that will be done, Simon is now going through a diagnostic process with a vet for the seizures so we will know the cause the treatment that should be taken.
Simon is adjusting well in his foster home. He loves people, including children, and give lots of kisses when he meets them. (however, he did give the vet attitude) He energetically greets other pups but is submissive when corrected by them. He adores being talked to and stroked or is content curling up next to you.
Simon has a playful side, is starting to play more with toys, and it looks more like ballet than playing because he's just so gentle and delicate. He does well on a leash and is progressing with house training. Simon is a very handsome pup that follows you everywhere, wants only to love you, and is eager to please!
(We will update about about Simon's health once testing is completed)
