Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Kyuuka (keh-yoo-kah), which means "summer", is one of Izumi's pups, that last one left in fact. She is nearly a year old at this point. The pups are also Shiba/Wheaton Terrier mixes as "dad" was also Izumi's "brother".
Coming to rescue at nearly 6 months of age is the first experience Kyuuka ever had outside of the house she was born in. She had never worn a collar, walked on a leash, or met people or dogs outside of those that lived in the house growing up. Because of this she is incredibly fearful and acts similar to dogs we receive from puppy mills. She will need an experienced, calm, patient owner who can bring her out of her shell.
Kyuuka is still shy with new people but is becoming more and more comfortable everyday and is finally ready for adoption. She is good with cats but probably would not do well around children as they are just too scarey for her right now. She is doing great with crate training and following the other dogs in her foster home to go outside.
Kyuuka's foster mom is currently taking her to a PetSmart Puppy Class to help socialize her. Here is an update after Week 1:
"I am SO proud of Kyuuka today! One night of puppy class under her belt (?collar) and she's already showing some confidence. From her hideout under the bed this morning, I could hear her cautiously squeaking some toys. Then, she came out from under the bed 3 times - all on her own. The third time, she was a completely different dog. Tail in the air and hyper as all get-out, she ran full speed around the house, played with some toys, played with Frodo, and sought attention and petting. After dinner, all her bravery was spent, but it was a day of great progress!"
Kyuuka just graduated her Puppy Class on Wednesday February 8th and her foster mom is continuing her into Intermediate to keep up both her skills and socialization.
Kyuuka's adoption fee is $300.00. This will include her spay, deworming, distemper vaccination, microchip and professional training course.
