Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Looking for a joyful, bubbly, life-loving young dog? Have we got the pup for you! Meet Tag. This rough coated boy with the flashy markings is nothing if not a happy kiddo! He smiles with his whole body – it starts at the tip of a very wiggly tail and ends at the tip of his cute little ears – topped off with a doggy grin a mile wide. You can’t help but smile yourself every time you see his big happy face! To go with that glass-half-full outlook is an incredibly sweet, kind soul who just wants everyone to be as excited about life as he is. At just 8 months old, Tag has got a bright future ahead and is 100% ready to embrace it!
Tag is just an all-round delightful dog to be around - his motto truly seems to be “Live, Laugh, Love”! He came to WBCR from a Utah shelter, where he was surrendered because his owner was not caring for him. His first owner was male and he seems to have a slight preference for men, but has no issues with anyone male or female, big or small, purple or blue! He loves everyone he meets and greets them politely. He has not spent a lot of time around children, but was great with them for the limited time he was with them. Even with all that youthful joy he is also very willing to sit with his head on your feet and nap or roll over for a good belly rub....he wants to be with his people whenever possible and is definitely happiest when he is your shadow. Tag is also most agreeable with other dogs, lives peaceably with three other Border Collies, and will play if they are up for it! He’s starting to turn onto toys and fetching, and reserves his unbridled adoration for the Jolly Ball. Tag is a little herdy and he is showing quite an interest in cats. He doesn’t want to hurt, but wants them to run so he can give chase. He is proving to push even a very dog-savvy cat into running, so we think for the cat’s sake, he would do best in a cat free home.
Tag is a pretty high energy fellow who will need a good chunk of physical and mental stimulation daily to be happiest and at his best. Although he is still a bit clumsy due to his oversized puppy feet and long legs, he is quickly blossoming into a typically agile and fast adult BC. Tag is 21 inches tall and currently weighs 36 pounds. He is quite thin and could use about 5-10 more pounds. He would be a great running or outdoor adventure companion and could go for miles with nary a misstep or whine. Given his athleticsm and smarts, we also think Tag could be a great dog sport candidate.
Wait! All this and and brains too? You betcha. Tag is very clever and learns new things incredibly quickly. He sees everyday as a chance to learn something new and make someone happy. He mastered housetraining in two days and will bark to be let outside! He’s also cratetrained, walks nicely on a leash, and has learned a few of the basics since arriving in foster care. It is clear he had little in the way of basic manners training in his former life and so Tag will require an adopter willing to continue with his education and set fair and consistent rules for him to live by. He also needs someone who will help him learn about the world. Tag is young, smart, and loves life, but can be a little unsure out in the world….like many BCs he is quite observant and likely to notice anything new, and it’s all new to him right now!. We don’t think he had been out and about much in his former life and so he has very little experience with life outside a home and all it can throw his way. An adopter who can help build his confidence and offer him positive new experiences will be essential to Tag’s development into the well-adjusted canine companion we know he can be.
All in all, Tag has the makings of one incredible Border Collie! Given his sweet, optimistic, and agreeable nature, he is suitable to a lot of different kinds of situations. If you are looking for a young fella blessed with a great temperament, overflowing with potential, and filled to the brim with happiness, Tag may be the BC boy for you!
Tag is neutered, fully vacced and living in a loving foster home near Salt Lake City, UT.
