Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mami (mah-mee), which means "real/true" and "beautiful"--it's fitting as she has many scars on her ears and face but regardless, she is truely beautiful. Mami is a 5 year old pure bed Red female that came to us on Sept 23rd from the puppy mill in Kansas. We originally thought she was pregnant but days, weeks and months passed and no puppies. So after doing some x-rays, our vet noticed that Mami's liver is fairly large which raises questions.
At this point, Mami has had an ultrasound done and our vet has diagnosed her with Cushing's Disease. This is a disease in which a tumor is on the dog's pituatary gland and produces too much cortisol which leads to the enlarged liver, enlarged adrenal glands, bloat pregnant looking belly, poor coat, excessive drinking and frequent urination. Mami is on medication which runs about $78 a month, yes, a month. The medication does not cure the disease, it is something she will need for life, rather it reduces the symptoms which leads to a more comfortable and better quality of life for Mami. Dogs with Cushing's can live anywhere from an additional 2-5 years after being diagnosed and since Mami is still happy we would like to give her the chance to find a wonderful forever family.
Mami is fantastic with other dogs, even the big crazy ones like Rosco and Kosai, good with cats, my 2 year old daughter, and my husband as well as visitors. She can still vocalize in her crate when there is change--crate is moved, she is moved into a larger/different crate, new home, etc. But after a couple of days, she gets over it. Mami is being fed in the crate a mix of dry and wet food to encourage her to enjoy her crate.
Mami's adoption fee will be lowered to $175.00 from $275.00 due to her needs. She will come with any leftover medication that we have for her at the time of the adoption, in addition to being spayed, given a surgical dental, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed. Mami will not come with a training course however if the adopter would like to sign her up for one anyway we will reimburse $25.00 of the adoption fee once completed.
