HOPI IS A LARGE MEDIUM-HAIR COON MIX AND LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT. WE HAVE GUESSED HIS BIRTH DATE AS BETWEEN 1998 AND 2001.
HOPI WAS SPOTTED HOPPING ABOUT ON 3 LEGS DUE TO A SEVERE INJURY ON ONE FRONT LEG IN MAY 2004. HE WAS SO TRAUMATIZED THAT HE WOULD TRY TO BITE HIS OWN TAIL AT THE SOUND OF ANOTHER CAT'S MEOW, WHICH HE HEARD FROM AN ADJOINING ROOM. FOR FAR TOO LONG, MOST OF HIS FUR CAME OUT, MATTED, DRY AND DIRTY. IT TOOK HIM 3 MONTHS TO INTEGRATE INTO THE SHELTER, FEARING ANOTHER BATTLE FOR HIS LIFE.
HOPI HAS BEEN TREATED FOR URINARY TRACT BLOCKAGE ONCE AND IT HAS BEEN ONE YEAR THAT HE'S DOING VERY WELL ON HIS SPECIAL DIET, WHICH WILL BE REQUIRED FOR HIS LIFETIME. HE HAS ALSO HAD SURGERY ON ONE EYE TO REMOVE SOME BATTLE SCARS. MORE SURGERY IS NEEDED BUT IT IS NOT CLEAR, WITHOUT A SECOND OPINION, WHETHER HE HAS AN INVERTED EYELID OR SOMETHING ELSE. WE DO NOT THINK HIS VISION IS COMPROMISED, BUT HE MAY HAVE SOME DISCOMFORT AND WE WOULD LOVE TO RESOLVE THIS SOON.
HOPI CAN BE LEASHED AND IS A VERY 'ALWAYS READY TO PLAY' TYPE OF KITTY. HOPI WOULD DO BEST WITH ONE OTHER CAT, BUT NO DOGS. HE IS VERY GENTLE WITH PEOPLE AND VERY LOYAL, BUT HE CANNOT BE IN A BUSY ENVIRONMENT
