Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Jaffe! With charming puppy dog looks and a very sweet nature, you had better hold onto your heart before reading any further! If you love a sweet, sensitive, well-mannered and mellow Velcro dog who wants nothing more than to be your quiet and unassuming shadow, Jaffe is just a dream. Rescued from a Colorado shelter, this darling purebred was picked up as a stray in terrible shape – just skin and bones and completely filthy. We know nothing of his past, but now that he is safe and sound in foster care and feeling better, it is clear we have a gem on our hands!
Jaffe is going to make a fantastically devoted companion to some lucky adopter. He loves nothing more than to be near his human family, and he follows his foster mom around the house like a little shadow. He happily soaks up any attention that comes his way, loves to be petted and will put his feet and chest on your lap if you let him, but is certainly not demanding and if you tell him it’s not a good time for that he will stop. Jaffe is definitely a little timid when it comes to meeting new people (he is much more comfortable with women vs. men), and he will sometimes submissively pee when he is
afraid. He does best with slow and quiet introductions, and is happiest when in his “safe place” (the crate) when strangers first arrive so he can get used to them. Although his foster family is working to build his confidence, given his timid nature a home with young kids may be a bit too much for this boy. He’s much more confident when meeting canines, is good with other dogs, and is somewhat playful with those who initiate it. Jaffe does not show a lick of interest in fetching or herding, it seems, although he does like to romp a bit in the snow and enjoys toys that involve food, like bones or Kongs. Jaffe is really pretty mellow for a Border Collie, and although this may increase a bit as he
feels more comfortable in the world, we don’t think he will ever be more than a lower to moderate energy fellow! Despite looking like just a pup, we think Jaffe is about 5 years old.
Jaffe is indeed one of those rescues who makes you wonder, and it is clear somewhere in his past someone took some time working with him. He has lovely manners and is familiar with more than just the basics. He’s housetrained and will even go potty on command! He also knows sit, stay, down, off, wait, chill, shake, leave it, come and crate. Jaffe is a bright boy and looooves food, so if you have some treats and want to teach him new tricks, no doubt he will be a star student!
Although he is a generally well-behaved boy, sensitive Jaffe will definitely benefit from adopters who will use gentle, reward-based training methods and who can continue to help build his confidence and broaden his experience, so the world is a less scary place for this sweet kid. All in all, Jaffe is a wonderful boy who is a rare find - it is not all that often that super sweet, well trained, lower energy Border Collies come into rescue! Jaffe is going to be happiest in a home that can give him lots of attention and that will make him a central part of their lives. This sweetheart deserves nothing less! Whoever is lucky enough to take Jaffe home will be rewarded with years of undemanding, faithful companionship. Jaffe is neutered, fully vaccinated and living in a loving home near Denver, CO.
