Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lily came into rescue after her previous family abandoned her when they moved. She is now looking for a family that will commit to her for the rest of her life, and treat her like the little princess that she knows she is!
AGE: 3 years; acts like a puppy
SIZE: 14 pounds, about 13 inches tall
TEMPERAMENT: Lily is friendly and very playful!
FENCE: Lily requires a securely fenced yard (wood, vinyl or chain link fence). She is a very active dog, and needs a safe place to run and play.
DOGS: Lily is a dominant dog. She likes to play with the other Shelties in her foster home, but can be pushy, and she would prefer to be the only princess in her forever home.
CATS: Lily chases cats. A home without cats would be best for all involved!
KIDS: Lily likes dog savvy kids 5 and older. She has not been exposed to toddlers.
CRATE TRAINED: Lily runs to her crate on command. She is crated when no one is home.
HOUSETRAINED: Yes - Lily has never had an accident in her foster home.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Lily has not had formal obedience training, but her adopter should commit to taking her to class. Lily would probably enjoy obedience or agility training, she is very intelligent. (We offer Sheltie obedience classes through MNSR).
LEASH MANNERS: Lily walks nicely on leash.
CAR RIDES: Lily rides well in the car in her crate,
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lily is very active, and requires a family that will keep her busy through training, exercise, and play time. She loves squeaky toys!
BARKING: Lily is vocal, and will bark when people come to home. She also barks at squirrels and other animals.
HEALTH ISSUES: Lily is being treated for heartworm. She will continue to receive medication once a month for 8-10 months (paid for by the rescue). She shows no signs of illness and should have no future problems with heartworm once her treatment is completed if kept on a monthly preventative (like all dogs should be).
EXPERIENCED HOME: Lily needs a family that will channel her energy in a positive direction. She is not shy, but is wary of strangers at first.
Lily is a cute, lively little girl. She would do well in a home where she gets lots of attention and positive direction. Agility or obedience training would be beneficial for her, and she would probably love it. She is a smart Sheltie girl!
For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit our website at www.mnsheltierescue.org, or contact us for the adoption application. Lily's adoption fee is $350.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).
Not ready to adopt, but you still would like to help a Sheltie in need? Sponsor a Sheltie! We gratefully accept donations of any size, and donations to MNSR are tax-deductible since we are a 501(c)3 not for profit organization. If you are interested in fostering a Sheltie and have a fenced yard, please email foster@mnsheltierescue.org. Please note that we are an all-volunteer organization, and we respond to inquiries as quickly as we can.
***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***
