Notes: Amy Lou - Labrador Retriever mix (possibly Border Collie, possibly Australian Cattle dog) - baby (approximately 7 months of age as of April 1) - female/spayed - black short to medium coat with white speckled markings and boots - 40 pounds - not expected to be much larger than medium when fully grown
Amy Lou is an exuberant and deeply intelligent dog. Leggy, with a medium length wavy coat, ridiculously lopped ears, and a bounding gait so impressive that she almost seems spring loaded, she is definitely a one-of-a-kind.
Amy's eye contact is open, direct, and intently focused. She is a wonderfully responsive dog, easy to train and so eager to learn that she spends more time settling down enough to receive information than she spends actually mastering a new concept. Her willingness and enthusiasm are touching, and perhaps a bit exhausting, fueled as they are by her puppy energy.
However, Amy is also capable of calm repose. She is also crate-trained, and very communicative regarding her need to go out.
Amy meets the world with interest and sometimes caution; she gets along very well with the resident dogs in her foster home. She is also good with their cats. She is not a shrinking violet, and can hold her own, but she does look to humans for reassurance when she is uncertain. She is a dog who is very likely to develop a primary bond with one or two persons, and will look to these humans for guidance and reassurance in new situations, which is completely appropriate. This kind of deep and trusting capacity to bond, along with her willingness to master new tasks and her great athleticism will make Amy an incredible student if her adopter wishes to engage in some kind of sport with her.
These qualities will also guarantee that Amy Lou will be just a plain and simple wonderful companion. Her schooling needs will need to be continued - she is coming along on a lead, is housetrained, and has learned "come", "sit" and "shake". She is working with all her might on "stay" and she has the concept in her head, it's just very hard for her happy body to be still.
She loves to be petted, and has a disconcerting habit of wriggling through her care-giver's legs when she is excited or unsure. She is an excellent eater, and highly treat motivated. She is learning to have a soft mouth when taking treats - again, her enthusiasm gets the better of her, as, when Amy is excited, her teeth practically chatter with joy.
Amy Lou will return the commitment of a loving home with ardor, spirit and trust.
