My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lucky is a 3 year old, 21 lb. (perfect weight), B/T smooth neutered male and is UTD on his vaccines. He is good with other dogs, he has done well with OLDER children, but likes to chase cats, so he needs a home without them. Lucky is friendly with people, however, when they first walk into the house he barks and tries to run up at them. We are using a squirt bottle for the correction and treats for a praise. Lucky is understanding that it is okay if he barks when someone enters the house, but is refraining from running up to them. If he attempts to, we give a quick squirt with a bottle of water and this gives enough time to distract him and allow people to walk in without having Lucky run up to them. When the 'company' is in the house, we praise him and give him a treat. He is starting to realize that when someone walks in the house and he does not 'run' up to them, he gets a treat, which he is very happy to receive. After a few minutes they are in the house, he is fine and will allow them to pet him, which he enjoys.

Lucky is fully housetrained to a doggie door, but may need reinforcement if one is not available. He may try to 'mark' but if you watch him and tell him NO or give a quick squirt with the water bottle, he will stop. By using both techniques, he has not done so since he first arrived in his foster home. He is also completely crate trained.

Lucky had a tendency to 'guard' his food and/or bones, while eating. If you petted him when he has either, he would give a low growl. Since working with him, putting half his food in the bowl and the other half given to him by hand (putting it in the bowl a few kibbles at a time), he now realizes that a hand near his bowl means he will be getting MORE food and has stopped 'guarding' his bowl. But, he is not food aggressive as he will take food/treats from your hand without a problem.

As you can see from his picture, Lucky has some fur missing from his ears and they are slightly 'jagged' at the edges. He also has a small bald patch on his lower back.

Lucky loves to go for walks, but most of all he loves car rides. If you ask him 'Wanna go for a ride?', he is waiting at the door looking at you, 'Okay, hurry up, lets go.' He loves attention and will follow his foster Mom around the house. While he prefers to sleep in the 'big' bed, he will sleep in a crate at night. He might whine for a few minutes, but if you tell him, 'go to sleep,' he will quiet down and sleep through the night.
