Here's what the humans have to say about me:
If you want to share your adventures with a fun, curious, and very sweet boy, Elwood might be just the one for you.
Elwood and his brother and sister were found wandering the streets of Sacramento, along with their mom. When we tried to capture them, Elwood was pretty shy and not quite sure he wanted to come with us. But with a little patience, pets, and liver flavored treats, we won him over. And now he is the most fun-loving, playful dog of them all. He is truly a goofy character and if foster moms were allowed to have favorites, Elwood would be it among the 3. Just look at the grin on his clownish face!
Elwood is about 1 year old and weighs around 20 pounds. He is house trained and crate trained. He is very curious about his surroundings and loves sitting outside watching the neighborhood life go by. He loves playing with his brother and the other foster dogs, and when they are done, Elwood enjoys playing on his own, tossing his toys in the air, pretending they are his play mates, and barking at them before he catches them.
Elwood is playful but not overly energetic. He likes to play tug, fetch, run through the yard, explore and his favorite pastime--chewing on crunchy rawhides. He likes to go for rides in the car and alternates between watching life go by outside the window and snoozing.
Elwood is an unusually vocal dog. By that I do not mean barky, rather he sounds like he’s trying to talk. I’ll be in one room with the rest of the dogs and I’ll hear Elwood in the other room, “Roo rooroo. Roorooroo. Roo rooroo roo.” When I look in on him he’s rolling around on his back, legs kicking up in the air, just talking away! He has the funniest deep little voice that has to be heard to be believed.
Introduced properly he gets along well with both large and small dogs. He currently is staying with a 7-pound chiweenie, his 20-pound brother, and a 50-pound Formosan Mountain dog. His best friend before she was adopted was a sweet-natured, playful pitbull, whose back he loved to jump on and hold onto for dear life.
He also lives with the foster mom's cats but has a tendency to bark at them and try to get them to play, which they do not appreciate, so they are kept in a different part of the house. With time and patience, Elwood may be able to live with a cat/cats without upsetting them, but he is not at that state currently, and might be best suited to a home without cats.
Elwood has played well with the neighbor's 8 year old boy and teenage girl. He likes to be in the middle of the action, whether it be in dog play or human play. But after all that play Elwood is happy to settle down and cuddle up with the humans. He especially likes to snuggle in bed.
Elwood is currently being fostered in SACRAMENTO. Please send an email to request an adoption application if you are interested in meeting or adopting him. There is a $225 tax deductable adoption fee which helps to pay for all of our rescued dogs' medical expenses. Elwood is neutered, micro chipped, tested negative for heartworms, current on shots, flea and heartworm medications. A home check will be required to ensure that he goes to an environment best suited for him.
