Age: 7 months
Weight: 5.5 lbs
This gorgeous little guy was dropped off at the shelter when his owners moved to Alaska. After arriving at his foster home, he was quite timid but started to come around with the help of the fellow canines in the house. He leaned on one of the other dogs to show him the ropes and let him know he was in a good place. Murphy immediately gravitated to his foster mom, but it took a couple weeks before he would solicit attention from other people. Now, he enjoys sitting in laps and receiving lots of pets and kisses, but hes still unsure of new people. In public, Murphy is still very shy and standoffish.
Being a puppy his foster mom will say that his housetraining is a work in progress. If she had to put a number to it, she would say he is 75% housetrained. He is being crate-trained when his people are at work, but he will still have accidents if not kept on a routine and supervised closely when hes roaming around the house. With continued consistency, we think hell be 100% soon! Murphy is an expert at squeezing through and even under the baby gates in his foster home, and for this reason, he will not be adopted to a home with a doggie door as we fear he will squeeze his way out of a fence.
An ideal home for Murphy would be a calm and quiet one with another young small dog to play with (he LOVES to play!). He is fostered in a home with a small child, but his foster parents feel he would be happiest in a home with no small/young children because he will cower when their human 13 mo old will toddle around the house even if at a distance from Murphy. Murphy would benefit from an adopter committed to taking him to basic obedience classes to help boost his confidence and help him in being more relaxed in public situations.
Murphys adoption fee is $300.
