My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dodger is a 3 year old black and tan male smooth standard dachshund who weighs about 17 pounds. He is happy-go-lucky, and what we call a "Big Loveable Goof". Imagine the characters of "The Andy Griffith Show" as dachshunds --- Dodger would be a regular cast member!

Dodger is always happy to see you and always gives you a warm welcome - even if you've only just returned from another room in the house! He's not a barker, but he does have a substantial bark that he uses to alert you of approaching strangers. Dodger gets along great with other dogs and would be a wonderful family companion.

Dodger is quite docile and self-sufficient, and does not demand much attention. He enjoys exploring his foster family's back yard but comes back inside when called. He likes to sit on the couch to keep an eye on the activity around him.

Dodger can also be quite the clown. He enjoys thrashing and wriggling around on the couch, with all four feet in the air, making happy groans and moans, giving himself a back scratch. He also likes to roll in the grass on a warm day. Just be sure to get out of his way when he sneezes!

Friendly Dodger just wants a person to snuggle up to as he observes the goings-on around him. He loves to have his head rubbed and will nudge your hand with his snout if he thinks it might get him a head scratch!

Dodger was rescued by a woman from another rescue group who spotted an ad in the paper saying "dachshund free to a good home". The rescuer called the owner who placed the ad and warned that this was not a safe way to locate a new home for a dog. The owner stated she had to get rid of Dodger "right away" as she was too busy with school and her children.

The rescuer decided on the spot to go get Dodger, especially since he was un-neutered, fearing he would otherwise fall into the hands of a puppy mill or lab. The rescuer then contacted various dachshund rescue groups on Dodger's behalf, and we were pleased to have an opening that we could give to this dog.

Sadly, Dodger's former owner is all too typical of the stories we hear. The owner obtained Dodger but did not think through her life and whether or not she was prepared to be responsible for a dog for its entire life. Instead, she dumped Dodger as soon as it was no longer "fun" or "convenient" to care for him. We are thankful for the wonderful rescuer who saved Dodger and brought him to us!

Dodger is a friendly, loving and personable fellow. He will make a lovely addition to anyone's home. Dodger has been neutered, brought up-to-date on immunizations, heartworm tested (he is negative and now on preventative), and was microchipped for permanent identification.

If you're looking for a dog that will do well with children and adults, then Dodger is your guy!

Can you give Dodger a loving, permanent home with lots of attention? If so, read the rest of the information below and then contact us for an adoption application.
