Here's what the humans have to say about me:
(written by volunteer Gwen) Johnny....sigh. Is this a good-looking dog, or what? Mom appeared to be mostly Plott Hound and dad was a Great Pyr, but other contributors to the family could be greyhound or maybe golden retriever, possibly even German Shepherd! Whatever the mix, it produced a beautiful, one-of-a-kind dog.
My favorite dog at the rescue kennel, Johnny is especially gentle, loving and smart. I've brought him home with me for fostering so I can build up his confidence in preparation for adoption. He has the kind nature and soulful expression of Great Pyrenees without the long, heavy coat. His smooth coat is plush but easy to groom. It shades from a warm golden color to white beneath his ears and underside. He loves to gaze into a person's eyes or shove his head into your chest and stand quietly. He has all his shots, is neutered, and has a micro chip. Johnny is so laid back that he is given the most contentious pen mates so he can serve as peacemaker. He is elegant on a leash and turns heads wherever he goes. This gentle boy will reward you with a lifetime of love.
Lisa discovered Johnny and his brother Axle as little pups standing on top of their flooded dog house in a tiny pen deep in poop and mud. The owner said the pups were unplanned and he didn't want them, so she took them to CARE,Inc where they have remained safe and well fed but incarcerated for two years. In the two weeks I've had Johnny, it has been thrilling to watch him get accustomed to a bigger world than a pen. I've gradually introduced him to running free in my pasture and woodlot. We've introduced him to the pleasures of coming indoors, in fact he is lying at my feet as I type. He is still frightened of men, falling leaves, too much sky, sudden sounds and just about everything else. I think he will eventually be adoptable to most any stable home, but for now I think he would be limited to someone who is very dog savvy and has secure fencing in case he panics. He is fine with my cat and chickens. Right now he is very afraid of men but my husband is working with him on that. Stay tuned about his progress. Email me for more photos and updates on his confidence building. My address is gwenroland@gmail.com
