Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lance is a sweet and affectionate 3 year old Lab/ Retriever cross who is looking for his forever home. Lance weighs approximately 45 lbs.
He is house-trained and knows all the basic commands such as sit, down, off, stay and with his favourite being shake paw! He has a great recall, even when there is something more interesting going on, and he is also especially good at ‘leave it’. He is very attentive and listens well to everyone, which is a great trait. From what we have seen Lance is a very smart boy and he tries very hard to please.
Lance is crate trained, and he even chooses to sleep in his crate on his own accord. During the day Lance can be trusted enough to be left out and seems to spend most of the day sleeping or looking out the windows at the squirrels in the backyard, patiently waiting for your return. Not once has he ever chewed any possessions or had an accident in the house. He can apparently even be trusted with his food bag in the same room! He is also not much of a barker, only when there is someone that is walking on the property. It is normally only one or two barks and he is very good at stopping when he is told to.
When Lance first came to us he was not very eager about playing with toys. However, after some time with us he has learned that playing fetch is one of his favourite things to do! He loves chasing both tennis balls and Frisbees and has perfected bringing the toy back and dropping it for you. He is able to keep up with lots of exercise and activity, and would be great for someone that likes to jog or go for long walks as he has the endurance and loves being outside. Although he has a lot of energy to expend outside, he is very well behaved and calm when he is inside. If you are home he would much rather be laying by you instead of running around the house. In fact he is quite the cuddle bug if you let him. He understands personal space for the most part, but he can’t help but give you kisses sometimes. These traits combined make him an entertaining but easy dog to have around, he definitely has an amazing one of a kind personality.
In addition to the fact that he loves being outside, Lance also lists car rides as one of his favourite things. Whether it’s driving for 10 minutes to go for a walk on the local trails or driving for over an hour he loves every minute of it! He is very well behaved in the car and will stay in the back seat while you are driving as he is very content just to look out the windows.
Lance has not shown food aggression with our cat and he is able to eat in the same room as another dog without having an issue. He will allow you to take his food and chews away with no issues except for sad looking puppy eyes.
Lance is a wonderful dog and he has received many compliments both people we know and people that we pass on the street. He needs a home with lots of love and attention, which will be given right back. He requires a home with no small children as he is not always aware of personal space with people that are not much bigger than him. He also sometimes becomes agitated with yelling and hitting, which with small kids can be a quite frequent occurrence.
Being the only dog would also be preferable for Lance. We have been socializing him with other dogs and we have seen him to be good with most, however he is not a dog that likes to play and he does not show much interest once he has met others. We would like to see him as the only dog in the house because we think that will make him the most comfortable.
Lance is good with cats.
He is a very well behaved dog who is devoted to the people who show him love and would make an amazing addition to anyone's life.
