My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 11/23/2012: Alli here - well, I had another one, yup I did. Another surgery, and this one made me feel great! Mom says I don't scream any more. Ya see, my teeth were getting really bad again. Because they had to pull so many on my first dental, the gums receeded up and exposed the roots on my chompers and - you guessed it - those had to come out too! Now, I din't have chompers, but I still eat and even like a bone or two (hint, hint Santa!!) Now I like to come and sit by my foster mom - I was worried before that my teeth would get bumped and they sure hurt a lot. Now I'm smiling!

Foster mom here, Alli did have another dental where they had to pull 4 teeth that were causing her pain. This poor little girl has sure been through her share of pain. Alli is sweet and wants to be loved.

A perfect home for Alli is: No children under the age of 10
A fenced in yard - so she can be safe and run free!
An experienced yorkie owner

Alli is working on her house-training. She does piddle out of fear, but this is lessening as time goes on. Alli does understand that she needs to do her business outside, but if it isn't readily available, she will have accidents.

Alli is an old soul in a younger body. She likes to watch the other dogs and will run out side with the pack. She loves squeeky toys and is hoping her wish of a forever home for her will come true. Is she the one for you?

Update 11/02/2012: Hi again, Alli here. Well, I'm still at my foster mom's house. I keep wondering why no one really wants me.... I thought I would have my very own perfect home by now. My foster mom keeps telling me that my family is looking for me, they just haven't found me yet. I guess I'll keep waiting....

Foster mom here: Alli is a very sweet girl who is very timid. She wants to be loved, but she is so afraid she will get hurt that she will choose to be in her safe place. Alli will come to me several times every day so I know she can do it. I am being very patient and waiting for her to come to me when she feels like it. She does piddle out of fear, but with trust that is lessening.

If you are looking to adopt Alli, the following are musts for her: a fenced in yard (no electric fences please), no children under the age of 12, you must agree not to tie her outside, and someone who is home a lot. A retired person may be an excellent fit for her! Alli is building trust - just very slowly.

Alli is worth it! She has had a horrible past, let's see if we can get her a home for the Holidays!

UPDATE 9/17/12: Alli is a beautiful 11 pound girl who is still looking for her forever home. Alli's past was not a great one - she is a puppymill survivor and was abused. She is a sweet soul who will take time to trust - she wants so badly to be loved, but is so afraid she will be hit that she will often times "leak" when she come close. Alli will cry at fast movements because she thinks she is going to get hurt. She has the most expressive ears and would love nothing more than to sit with her person all day long.

Alli needs to go to a home with a fenced in yard, someone who is home a lot, no children under the age of 12, and has someone who is patient enough to earn her trust. Please fill out an application if you think she may be the perfect fit for her.

UPDATE 5/22/12: Hi Everybody! Alli here..... Yup, I'm all done with my surgeries and guess what??!! I can hear now!!! Wow, I love to listen and sing along with the birds and all the neat sounds I've missed over the first 6 years of my life. I LOVE walks and snuggling with people. My mom says I'm beautiful and a sweet girl. I'm trying to learn where to do my business, but sometimes I forget.... She says that I'm lovable anyway! Well, I'm ready for my new home. I'll be a little scared, but I really want my own home. I promise to love you the bestest I can and will snuggle lots and...well....do you know anyone who may want to love me?

Update 04/18/12: Alli continues to improve. She is turning her head towards the sounds being made. She can now hear a treat box being opened!! Alli doesn't appear to be in pain, although she HATES her cone! The Vet is very optimistic that the infection in her ears is clearing and there are no signs of complications with surgeries performed with current infections. Stay tuned! Alli will be ready for adoption in just a few short weeks from now!! Thanks to all her rescue angels who have made her surgery possible!

Update 04/13/12: This morning when I went to go visit Alli at the hospital, I was talking to her and the vet tech said something to me from the other side of the room. Alli turned her head to see who spoke! This is the first time she has shown that she can hear across the room!!! Thank you United Yorkie Rescue for giving her a chance at hearing words of love!!!!

Alli is now home and very much in pain - but excited to be home. She loved the hot-dog "treat" that had her medicine hidden inside. I am excited for her and the chance she now has to hear and be without chronic pain. We will go back to the vet on Monday to see how things are going for her.

Update 04/12/12: Hi - Alli's foster mom here - Alli had surgery today and did not tolerate it as well as they thought she would. She will be spending the night at the hospital and should be able to come home tomorrow. Please send your well wishes her way. She has experienced so much pain in her short life, I hope she is able to come home to recover soon.

UPDATE 4/11/12: Ok - tomorrow is my big day - I go in for surgery to finally get my ears fixed. They hurt so much all the time that they closed up. So now the nice Dogtors are going to open my ears up so the infections go away and maybe I can hear better! Say some prayers for me please :) Alli

Update 03/10/12: Alli has been back in to see the vet for her ears. The infections are not going away despite regular treatments. It is clear that she is very uncomfortable as she spends 99% of her time scratching her ears, rubbing them on walls, and shaking her head. The poor thing scratches them so much she has opened the vein in the back of her ear several times soaking her ear and neck in blood.

As a result of frequent ear infections that were not addressed in the puppy mill, Alli's ears have so much scarring the opening to her ear canal is smaller than the regular head of a Q-tip. This means that her ear cannot drain when there is an infection and it is very difficult to get medicine down where it needs to be to put a final stop to the raging infections. It has been determined that Alli will need a procedure where they remove the vertical part of the ear canal to create an opening lower than the natural opening of most ears. This will allow the remaining horizontal piece of the ear canal to drain directly out the side instead of being trapped and festering into the infections she is having now. There are risks to this surgery as it will be impossible to clear the infection before surgery. If it is successful, not only will there be oxygen to the area and a way to treat the infection, but she will be able to hear better than she ever has before.

Alli is a fighter - she has come back beautifully from near death and severe malnutrition. She needs everyone's help to make it a bit further. Can you please help? Alli's surgery will take place no later than the first week of April - she needs to go through 10 days of oral meds to be in the best possible shape for this difficult surgery.

UPDATE 02/26/12: Hi everybody - Alli here. Well, I still don't have a home of my own yet - my mom says someone out there will find me soon and then I will have a house of my own! Please hurry - I've been waiting so long!

Alli is doing very well. She is very sweet and wants nothing more than to be by her people all the time. She will even crawl onto your lap if you are seated! Alli's ears are getting better, but may need some treatments in the future. The treatment is a thorough ear clean with medicated oil syringed into her ear. The oil will stay for 2 weeks - fighting the bacteria and any infection that may still remain. Alli is working on her house training, but still has accidents. She has the idea, but when she is startled will make a puddle. Alli has been through so much and is still so sweet - don't overlook this little girl, she sure has a lot to offer the right family. The best home for Alli would be one where at least one person is home most of the time and their yard is fenced in. Alli was caged for almost her whole life - now, she LOVES to run free!

UPDATE 12/19/11: Dear Santa, Alli here. I was wondering if you could help me with something...You see....I've never really had a family before. I really want one of my own for the holidays. I'm a good girl and LOVE being around people. I'm working really hard on my house training....it is still kinda hard for me. I want a fenced in back yard to play in and someone who will help show me what love is. WHen I lived in that scarey place - foster mom calls it a puppy mill - they didn't give me a lot of food. And....shhhh - tell anyone - they weren't very nice to me. Foster mom says it is never nice to hit - I like where I am not because even when I find something new to chew on, she never gets mad at me. I'm learning the word no, but it is hard because I can't hear very well so I'm trying really hard to learn hand signals. Anyway Santa, do you think there is someone out there who will love me? Love, Alli

UPDATE 12/06/11: Hi everyone, Alli here. Wow, do I feel good! I had my surgery and my dental and am running around like a puppy! The Dogtors told me my mammary tumor was nothing to be worried about. We celebrated by playing with my favorite squeek toy.

I really want my very own home for the holidays. How about it, anybody out there want a special little girl who will be totally devoted to you?

Foster mom here: Alli came through her surgery with flying colors! She is very sweet and wants to be with her people as much as she can. Alli will need a fenced in yard so she can continue to run free - she spent many years in a 2x3 cage. Alli loves walks, treats and snuggling. She is making good gains on her house-breaking but will need someone who is very patient to keep the progress going. Alli sometimes wears doggie pants to help remind her where she should do her business. Alli is up to date on her shots and is ready for her new forever home - are you the one for her?

Update 11/04/11: Hey everyone, Alli here. Wow, lots of news here....Can you keep a secret?? Shhhhh...I weigh 12 lbs now! Well, you know - a girl doesn't like to discuss her weight! Guess what else?? I like squeeky toys!! I can't believe how neat they are. I can squeek them and even throw them into the air. What is really funny is if I throw it into the air on the hill - it then rolls down the hill - very cool!! Oh yeah, another thing... did you know that those little red things that grow in gardens are really yummy. My mom calls them tomatoes. Well, now that I am grown up, I don't have to wait for her to give me one, I can help myself!! Hmmmm, maybe that is why my mom calls me goofy! Oh yeah, I also love to go on walks. Now that I am strong, I can walk a long time without having to lay down. Sometimes we go out for 90 minutes!

I guess my biggest news is that I am scheduled to have my surgery on November 25th (spay, dental, mammary tumor removal). After that, I need just a few days at home and then I'm ready for my very own home! I can't wait!!! My mom told me there is a cool day coming up called Christmas where good little dogs have some of their wishes come true. Do you know what I wish for? My very own house with my very own family! Will you help make my wish come true?

UPDATE 9/23/11: Well, Alli was unable to have her surgery today as she woke up this morning in heat. We were very sad to find out the vet recommends her surgery be postponed 2 months to ensure the blood vessels are all contracted as much as possible - this would result in a greater possibility that the surgery will go well. Although she has to wait, Buddy - our other foster - had his surgery today.

In the mean time, Alli will be enjoying her stay with us gaining perhaps another pound. Keep her in your thoughts - she is getting closer to being able to have her very own forever home! Stay tuned :)

UPDATE 9/19/11: This is Alli today. She acts very much like a puppy! Alli is scheduled for surgery September 29 where they will remove a mammary tumor, spay and a dental where she will lose many of her teeth. Tomorrow, Alli is scheduled to see a specialist for her ears to see if anything can be done to relieve her pain. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

UPDATE 9/12/11: Great news today! Alli saw the vet and has now gained 2.5 lbs!! They think she will be ready for surgery in 2 weeks. It will be so nice for her to get her teeth taken care of because they continue to cause her a lot of pain. The surgery will be: a dental, mammary tumor removal as well as a spay. Her ear infections continue to cause her trouble - because of all the scarring, it is nearly impossible to get medicine far enough in to help with the infection. She may need another surgery to help with clearing the ear canal out to be able to successfully treat the ear infections....

Alli continues to be a sweetheart through all the pain. She loves being around people, although she is still a little skittish. I'm not sure if this is because of the lack of socialization, or if it is because even the slightest touch to her ears or mouth makes her cry. We are still working on housetraining, she is coming along very slowly.

Alli's future home would need to have a fenced in yard, a lap or two to snuggle in, and no young children. After her surgery, I'll have a better idea about the age of children that would be ok for her. Thank you so much for all your help with her medical care, she is worth it. It has been wonderful seeing her blossom with every day full of good food, love and medical attention. She will make a wonderful addition to someone's family! Stay tuned.....

UPDATE 8/26/11: Alli went to the Dr. today for her 2 week check. There were some good things and some not so good.

The good: The infections in her eyes are now under control and she has gained 1 pound already! She is eating 3-4 times a day with all the in-between high protein snacks we can give her. Alli is now able to walk the length of 4 houses without laying down or getting wobbly. We take her on a walk every day - mostly she goes on a "carry" not a "walk", but she sure loves being outside. It has been fun to see her change from a dog with no energy to one who is starting to act like a puppy!

The not so good: She still is not stable enough to schedule the much needed surgery, but we are headed in the right direction. Because of the scarring in her ears and the fact that they are almost totally closed, Alli may need surgery on her ears to be able to reach where the raging infection is. In the meantime, she still cries if ears or jaw are accidentally touched. Alli's teeth are so bad that when I give her a treat and she pulls back, her teeth flex with my fingers. It is doubtful that she will have any teeth remaining once we are able to get her dental done.

We want to thank the special Angels who have helped with Alli's care, without you - she would not have a chance at getting healthy and finding a family who will show her what love is. Thank you!!

Initial bio 8/14/11: This is Alli. She is a puppymill survivor who has tremendous will to live. United Yorkie Rescue was notified by a shelter that there was a 5 year old dog who was going to be put down if a rescue did not take her. She was very quiet for the 3 hour ride home. The vet was shocked at her condition. Alli is suffering from severe malnutrition, eye infections, ear infection, mammary tumor, and severe dental condition as well as a grade 2 (low) heart murmur and luxating patellas. If you can help with her care, she is worth it. To her past owners, she was known as '75' - they even tattooed it in her ear....to us Alli is a beautiful girl full of love and hope - waiting for a family of her own.

Because of her condition, the vet will not perform the much needed surgery (spay, mammary tumor removed, dental, ear cleaning) she needs because she is so unstable. She was not able to stand on her own during her bath. Alli needs special food to help her begin her recovery from severe malnutrition. She will need to gain approx. 4 lbs before the vet will feel confident in Alli's ability to survive the surgery.

All this being said, Alli is a sweetheart. She is a little uneasy with loud noises, but she is already seeking out attention and leaving her cage more and more.

She tries her best to eat, but her mouth is so sore it is hard for her. She is a fighter who deserves a chance. She will not be ready for adoption until she is healthy, however you can submit applications at any time. Alli is a keeper - she is worth the wait!

Alli is a 5 year old, 9lb (should be approx 12lb) female yorkie being fostered in Madison, WI. Thanks for reading about this special girl!
