Update: 9/9/11
Our sweet Lily passed on to the rainbow bridge this evening. Though she may never had found that furever home she was so deserving of, she was showered with love by her foster mom. In the end she was held by the only people who showed her love as she crossed over. RIP sweet Lily, may you run pain free at the rainbow bridge.
Poor Lily lived with her guardian for many years and through no fault of her own was tossed out and forced to live on the streets. Then somebody who claimed to have found her on the street rumbling hungry and thirsty in a deplorable condition, brought her into Animal Control. Now that would not be that bad if Lily was just a normal beagle a little bit older, and dirtier but Lily was caring a large tumor under her belly the size of a large grapefruit. And that on top of other problems she had, as we found out later when we had her checked by our vet. Till this day we cannot stop but wonder how blind do you have to be not to see that something so monstrous is growing on your pet's belly !!!!! What kind of human being can be so careless and ignorant!!!!
So here she is, poor Lily stuck over in Linden Animal Control and was facing her last days on earth. When we met this sweet girl, we just couldn't let that happen to her so we took her into foster.
At the time we didn't even consider much how we are going to pay for her care, as a surgery for mammary tumor can be very expensive, not to mention other complications that might arise. But we just took her in and after a good bath, and a good dinner we made her comfortable in her new temporary home.
Lily is about 7-8 years old and she is a sweetie with people, she is just too jealous when it comes to other dogs so she needs to be the only pet in your family. Besides being skin and bones, Lily had 3 different kinds of worms, her eyes were yellow, and she couldn't walk too fast because of the tumor and one of her back legs being so muscle weak, not too mention she was very anemic.
But, Lily's luck was about to change when we got the information from another rescue group about Penn University and their study program for dogs with mammary tumors. This was quite some time ago and meanwhile Lily got her surgery, no more tumors and the biopsy was mixed for malignancy which means Lily could live many more years free of cancer. But that is not all, thru the study program Lily has all her health issues related to the cancer treated for free for the rest of her life. So if another tumor, might happened to grow, the nice people from Penn will help her again for free.
Meanwhile Lily is in a foster home but unfortunately, her foster mom works and has other pets too, so Lily doesn't get all the attention to herself. This poor girl doesn't need much, she likes a good meal, cuddling, and be petted and very short walks so she can exercise her week legs. She is crate trained and we think she is house broken too, but due to her age and such a difficult surgery she might have small accidents if she doesn't go out more often. She is still very weak and slowly getting some weight but in order to thrive she needs the one on one attention.
If you cannot adopt Lily, maybe you could provide her with a foster home so she can recover faster. We do provide all the necessary things for her such as food, treats, blankets, medications etc.
You can fill out the application by clicking the link below and somebody will get back to you ASAP.
Click here to complete an adoption application.
The adoption process requires that you first fill out an application. While the application does not commit you to adopting a particular pet, it does allow us to learn more about you and to match you with the particular pet you are interested in. Once we call your references, we do a home visit where we bring the dog/cat so you can meet them and see how they would fit within your household. There is an adoption fee for Lily. This covers all his age-appropriate shots and vetting. We also give you a breakdown of future shots that the pet will need.
If you would like to make a donation to help us rescue more animals please make your check payable to New Hope Pet Rescue. All donations go directly to the care of the animals, we are strictly a volunteer based group. Thank you for helping us save as many lives as we can.
