Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATE:
We had Howie back at the vet yesterday. I brought him in because I felt he should be farther along with his ear and his breath was beginning to smell. They kcocked him out and took a good look at his mouth (his initial surgery was done in WV) and looked at his infected ear.
His mouth is not doing good. He has more black tissue that is going to have to be removed and we think that his ear problem might be related to his mouth problem. His ear is still badly infected and all his meds have been changed. He is going in for dental surgery the 2nd week of Feb. We are not sure if anything more will need to be done with his ear. Depends on how he is doing by then.
This poor dog has known nothing but PAIN! Poor Howie was in a kill shelter when we saw him. Being an older dog of about 8 years, we knew he had little chance of being adopted so we stepped in. Howie was picked up as a stray and was obviously starving. He decided to try and eat some roadkill and got the fur stuck between his teeth. The imbedded fur got abcessed and terribly infected growing into a mass that covered most of the bottom teeth on one side of his mouth. The pain he must have been in. We had oral surgery done to remove this mass and clean out the infection but he ended up losing the teeth on that side. He also sat in something caustic and burnt all the fur off his butt. He is also strong lyme positive which in dogs presents itself in the form of bad arthritis. He also was attacked by something that bit his ears casuing puncture wounds that also got infected and lastely, he has a terrible ear infection that was so painful for him, we couldnt even touch his ear. THROUGH ALL THIS...Howie remained sweet and affectionate!!! That just amazes me. Howie is on the mend but is not ready for adoption yet. His mouth is coming along and the fur is starting to grow back on his butt. He is on meds for his lyme and we are treating his ears to clear up the infections. We think it will be another 2-3 weeks before he will be ready for a new home. Howie is quiet in the house, crates willingly and is housebroken. He needs a good grooming since his fur is all matted but his body, mouth and ears are so sore, we have to wait to have that done. He is the sweetest little guy that loves to be hugged and loved on. He gets along great with other dogs too! If you are interested in adopting, please read the following carefully: Please email with your name, address and phone number along with a brief description of the home you can provide. Our adoption fee is $300. Unfortunately, due to the number of outstanding checks we have had recently, we will now be only accepting cash at the time of adoption. Please understand that we are an all volunteer organization and it might take us a couple days to get back to you.
