This gorgeous old fellow was saved from a local animal control facility just in the nick of time. One of our volunteers fell in love with a picture of his cute "Lassie" face and went to meet him. He was shaking and sad in a kennel, knowing his time was almost up. Personally, we think oldies but goodies are the best! He’s mellow and not too busy. It seems he simply loves to have a comfy doggie bed and being loved. Tanner doesn’t even attempt to get up on furniture, but comes up for head pets and slowly wags his tail to say "thank you for saving me." Tanner was full of scabs from fleas and ticks but with some good food and lots of TLC he is as good as new. He enjoys his bath and loves to be brushed and has really learned to appreciate his new digs. He has the most beautiful coloring. His fur is a little coarse, but getting softer with fish oil pills. He’s the perfect houseguest - laid back, housebroken and crate-trained. He doesn’t need to be crated but sometimes he just goes in them for a quiet place to rest. He has an ear that has had some chronic infections and he probably doesn’t hear and see as well as he used to. When in a deep sleep, he gets scared if woken unexpectedly. He does get along with other dogs, but pretty much ignores them. He’s an old guy who is unfortunately heartworm positive. The harsh treatment could be fatal and it was recommended to give him monthly heartworm prevention and let him live out the rest of his days in comfort. Who knows, he could live a long time if given the care he should have always gotten. Dogs are not disposable and his heartworms could have been easily prevented.
