My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NAME: Carley

AGE: a perfect six

OCCUPATION: therapy dog; official Wagtime greeter

HOMETOWN: Williamsburg, VA (that’s right, I’m a history buff. I look great in a bonnet, too)

FAVORITE SONG: Easy Like Sunday Morning by Lionel Richie

FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR: Bacon peanut butter!

HOBBIES: Singing in the shower, playing miniature golf, and mending the worn-out elbows on your favorite sweater.

ABOUT ME: OK, I know what you’re thinking. A low-energy pit bull? Yeah right. That’s practically an oxymoron. A pittie who does not demand hours of exercise? Doesn’t exist. A bully breed who is unfazed by noise, activity, kids, or dogs? Yeah, and I’m the Easter Bunny.

But wait! It’s not a myth! That dog does exist. It’s me, Carley! Not only am I so incredibly good-looking, but I also happen to be the mellowest girl on the planet. I’m living at a doggie daycare in DC, and the staff think I’m so great that they let me be the official greeter. That means that all day long as different people and dogs come in and out, I get to wander casually around, gently greeting everyone so they feel welcome. The rest of the day, I lay loyally by the desk with my people, happy to just be with them. I do enjoy a short walk now and then, but I don’t need any epic 45-minute affairs! Just around a couple of blocks is good enough for this girl!

If that’s not awesome enough on its own, there’s more! While I was living at the animal shelter in Virginia, I worked as a therapy dog to earn my keep. That’s right, I got to spend time with children with autism and nursing home residents, paying them visits to help them feel loved. I never did get certified, but everyone who knows me thinks that I would pass the therapy dog certification test with flying colors.

By now you're surely asking yourself: How did a dog as great as me end up homeless? Well, my original family had to give me up when they lost their house due to the recession, so I’ve been relying on the kindness of strangers for the past three years. Some people think I haven’t been adopted yet because of the fun milky square on my right eye (the result of a past injury that I can’t remember – but I can see out of the eye, and there are no long-term risks associated). But I love my milky square, and I think you will too. The real reason I haven’t been adopted is because I haven’t met YOU yet!
