My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 10/15/11: Meet Holstein!

Holstein and his brother Curio (also posted on our site) are being fostered in the home of one of our volunteers until they find homes of their very own. Holstein and Curio can be adopted out separately, or together.

Holstein is approx. 6 months old. He looks like a dairy cow because of his beautiful colors. Holstein is missing an eye, so perhaps we should call him the one-eyed cow kittie?

Holstein is missing an eye because he caught a virus from his mom when he was only a couple of weeks old. The virus damaged his eye and so it was surgically removed. Holstein gets along just fine without it!

Holstein loves a good kitten brawl. He is rambunctious and plays, plays, plays nonstop! Holstein is your typical fearless kitten. He loves all animals (cats and dogs), as well as people. During his quieter moments, you will often find him curled up on a pillow or someone's lap, fast asleep.

As stated above, Holstein did catch a virus from his mother (Feline Herpes Virus). So did his sibling Curio. The virus is handled better when cats become adults and have a better immune system. The virus will never "go away" it just goes dormant. Stress is usually a trigger for flair ups. The virus does not have to be active to be spread though. My vet described it like going through life with an occasional cold. Only other cats can catch this virus.

Please don’t be afraid to adopt Holstein and/or Curio! Adopt two of them together, or one by itself, or adopt one of them to make friends with your own feline herpes positive cat. They would love that!

Interested in meeting and possibly adopting Holstein? Fill-out an online adoption application via www.sadiemaefoundation.org. $125 adoption donation, reference check and home visit are required prior to adoption.

While in the care of the Sadie Mae Foundation, Holstein has had eye surgery, been neutered, provided with age appropriate vaccines, FIV/Leukemia tested (negative) and dewormed.

Our adoption contract specifically prohibits adopters from declawing any of our rescued animals. There are alternatives to declawing and we would be happy to discuss those alternatives with you.

Info. about Sadie Mae Foundation's adoption process
Please note that we do not ship animals or do same-day adoptions. Additionally, we ordinarily limit adoptions to homes within CT or no more than an hour or so drive from Hartford, CT in order to be able to conduct a home visit and provide follow-up assistance when necessary. Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis.

We try to make our adoption process as easy and painless as possible, but please understand where we are coming from and all of the work that goes into rescuing and rehoming homeless animals. We don't want them to go through this again. Visit www.sadiemaefoundation.org to learn about the adoption process in detail.

If you are not in a position to adopt a pet that tugs at your heart strings, consider sponsoring its care. Click here for details.
