8/1/11: Meet one-eyed Willy!
Willy and his siblings are being fostered in the home of one of our volunteers until they all find homes of their very own.
Willy is approx. 14 weeks old. He has only one eye, but he doesn't seem to realize it! Willy is the most affectionate kitten in the bunch. If he feels he is not getting is due attention, he will come headbutt your hand until you pet him. He likes to rub all over you, while purring.
Willy enjoys playing with his littermates and likes romping around with the small dogs in his foster home.
Here is a note from Willy (and his littermates Pudgers, Curio and Holstein)...
"Hi friends! We are trying to find someone to love us and take us home as their very own. When we were born, our mom transferred the feline herpes virus to us through her milk. We'’re trying to tell people not to be afraid to adopt us because of our condition…
Two of us had a very severe case of feline herpes virus and are blind in one eye. If you look close, you will be able to tell which of us that has happened to. Our symptoms were upper respiratory, but as you know eyes can be affected too. It is in the same family of viruses that cause colds and cold sores in humans. It is contagious to other cats, but not other animals and not to humans!
The nice volunteers at Sadie Mae Foundation nursed us back to health and we feel great! We love to play, play, play and are very fond of people!
Cats can handle the virus better when they are adults and have a better immune system. The virus will never "go away" it just goes dormant. Stress is usually a trigger for flair ups. The virus does not have to be active to be spread though. My vet described it like going through life with an occasional cold.
Please don't be afraid to adopt us! Adopt two of us together, or one of us by ourselves, or adopt us to make friends with your own feline herpes positive cat. We would love that!

www.sadiemaefoundation.org. $125 adoption donation, reference check and home visit are required prior to adoption.
While in the care of the Sadie Mae Foundation, Willy has had eye surgery, been neutered, provided with age appropriate vaccines, FIV/Leukemia tested (negative) and dewormed.
Our adoption contract specifically prohibits adopters from declawing any of our rescued animals. There are alternatives to declawing and we would be happy to discuss those alternatives with you.
Info. about Sadie Mae Foundation's adoption process
Please note that we
do not ship animals or do same-day adoptions. Additionally, we ordinarily limit adoptions to homes within CT or no more than an hour or so drive from Hartford, CT in order to be able to conduct a home visit and provide follow-up assistance when necessary. Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis.
We try to make our adoption process as
easy and painless as possible, but please understand where we are coming from and all of the work that goes into rescuing and rehoming homeless animals. We don't want them to go through this again. Visit
www.sadiemaefoundation.org to learn about the adoption process in detail.
