Esmeralda is named for the color of her eyes: her name means emerald in Spanish. This elegant young lady has a silky medium length coat of black and white, which she keeps impeccably groomed. She was born about September of 2010, so shes still very much a kitten in body and soul. Esmeralda is playful, curious, smart and a bit sassy.
She loves any and all toys, but she especially adores leaping through the air, making graceful pirouettes and spins, as she pursues flying things at the end of a string. Esmeralda is a bit of a diva and does not care to share her people with any other cats. She is chatty and social, loves meeting new people and sitting on their laps. Although shes always happy to have company, she is used to spending most of the day by herself and can amuse herself very well, as long as there are lots of toys, and a window with a good view of the world outside.
We havent tested her with dogs but we suspect she would insist on being in charge and might be a little scary to a dog that doesnt have diva cat experience. She would be fine with young children who are respectful of cats. Esmeralda loves being combed and petted, and she always wants to be near people to interact with them, but she doesnt care for being picked up and carried around.
Her personal habits are impeccable: she is tidy with the litter box, and her coat is always clean and silky. She sheds very little and just a light combing once a week or so is all the help she needs to look fabulous. She scratches on her rope post and her cardboard scratcher, and doesnt shred things she shouldnt. She does however expect to be welcomed on the furniture and to share the bed with her people.
Esmeralda was left behind in a rental home when the tenants were evicted and moved out in the middle of the night to avoid the landlord. A neighbor knew a cat lived in the house and convinced the owner to give her access so the cat could be rescued. She asked us for help. We fostered Esmeralda for a month, to give her owners a chance to come back and claim her, if they chose to. No one stepped forward, so Esmeralda is now ready for her perfect, permanent home.
Esmeralda, like all ARCF cats for adoption, has been spayed, microchipped, is up to date on vaccines, and has tested negative for FeLV and FIV.
