My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Local homes preferred!**

Roxy is a sweet little shiba with a big personality! Weighing in at a whooping 14 pounds, she is mostly cream colored with some red on her ears, head and back. Roxy was an owner surrender due to finance issues.

Roxy loves playing with our two dogs and has had no issues with any other dogs she has met. She is excited to see new dogs when we are out on walks. Although she is the smallest dog in our house, she never lets the boys push her around! She loves to chase and be chased. We would prefer to place her in a multiple dog household as she seems to really love being around other dogs.

Roxy loves attention and is quite affectionate for a shiba. As I sit writing this, she has been sleeping on my lap for the last hour. She loves to be petted, especially belly rubs! We let her sleep on the bed at night and she prefers to cuddle up right next to her people. At her previous home, Roxy was exposed to kids and gets along quite well with them.

Roxy is very well behaved and has not gotten into any trouble at our house. She generally comes when called, knows how to sit, and walks well on leash. We have been joking that the best behaved dog in our house is the one that doesn’t belong to us!

The main issue we have noted is that Roxy does not know how to ask to go outside when she has to go potty and will not reliably go potty outside in our backyard. She has had a few accidents in our house and typically goes into another room to hide them. We have been working with her on these issues by taking her out on leash to go potty every few hours. She can also be a bit of barker. She is quite the “ferocious” little guard dog and will also bark when she would like to play or needs attention.

At her previous foster home, Roxy took a real liking to cats in a “prey” sort of way and for this reason she will not be placed in a home with cats or other small animals. Roxy is doing well with crate training. She is crated during the day while we are at work and really only cries when she knows we are still in the house. I think she would be trustworthy to leave uncrated during the day but am crating her only for consistency with our other dogs.

Overall, Roxy is the sweetest little shiba who just loves getting attention. She would be a great addition to any family!

The adoption fee for Roxy is $300. Please refer to the MSIR website (www.shibarescue.org) for more information on the application and adoption process.

NOTE: DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS SHOULD ALWAYS BE LEASHED WHENEVER THEY ARE OUTSIDE OF A SECURELY FENCED AREA. IN ADDITION, MANY SHIBAS ARE DOOR BOLTERS AND CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN AROUND DOORS AND OTHER ESCAPE POINTS.
