Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Laila is NOT at the RAS, she is currently in a volunteer's home being fostered. Please email for information.
Meet Laila (pronounced Lay-La)
This tiny American Bulldog puppy was owner surrendered to Romulus Animal Shelter on 6/28 with an injured leg. Citing poor breeding we have found this not to be the case. The leg is not a genetic issue, it has been broken. How? We do not know.
Taber's Helping Paw (Volunteer Group Supporting Romulus Animal Shelter) has taken puppy to the vet for an x-ray, check up, and first puppy vaccinations. She weighs only 10.4 lbs and is very wrinkly. She is much smaller than she appears in photographs. She also has a puppy staph infection and is taking Clavamox capsules 62.5 mg x2 daily, as well as a perscribed, medicated shampoo bath to sooth her irritated skin. Tramadol pain meds, x2 daily to ease her pain. Too thin, as well as everything else that she is dealing with, no wonder she looks so sad, and does little. Puppies should be bouncey, active and hard to hold down, not Laila (named after the fighter by one of our volunteers).
Another volunteer (AMBD savvy) has taken Laila to her home as a foster where she will be chowing down on Blue Buffalo as recommended by the vet. In two weeks, when she is a healthy weight, the staph infection under control, and inflammation down, she will be getting surgery. Sadly, that means amputation at the shoulder...not the news we were prepared to hear.
Diagnosis Summary: Broken radius bone at growth plate which is now fully developed. The ulna bone will continue to grow with Laila causing the leg to be even more pronated than it already is. Puppy staph infection - wormy belly - under weight.
While Laila's life will now be challenging for her, she will be pain free and able to continue on her journey as a normal, happy puppy. Sad to think a baby has to go through this at only 2 1/2 months of age, but it will also be an easier adjustment, as she grows and gets used to her new life as a three legged puppy.
Please turn your sadness into joy by helping Laila with a donation for her surgery, continued care with vaccinations, rabies, post-surgery x-ray that she will need, any meds (Rx and OTC), de-worming, possible spay and good groceries to help her heal and grow strong, etc. We don't care how much the donation is, its all good, bundled together it will mount up. Please HELP Laila!
NOTE: One of our volunteers will match dollar for dollar, any donation that is made :)
