Fiona is a foxy little Formosan Mountain Dog, rescued from the streets of Taiwan during their terrible floods last year. She has overcome some health issues and is being treated for a skin condition called Demodex. Thankfully, this is well-controlled.
Fiona is a shy dog who takes time to feel comfortable around new people. She seems to prefer women over men but a man could win her over with patience and the right treat. Fiona is very food-motivated which has made it easy to teach her basic commands.
Fiona is in a foster home with another medium size dog. They do well together but Fiona might prefer being an 'only dog'. Fiona feels that other dogs are competition and does best with dogs that are not too invasive of her personal space or are wanting to play too much.
She has not been witnessed around cats but would likely do well if allowed time to acclimate to feline siblings. She would not want to be in a home with young children as their energy and excitability would prove scary to her.
Being the mature dog that she is at approximately 4-5 years, Fiona is calm and enjoys lazing around in her dog bed or at your feet or following you around the house. She does enjoy occasional walks and will get frisky when her stuffed toys are thrown for her. She loves to be petted but is not fond of being held. Her current foster works full time and Fiona has no problems staying home alone during the day as long as a puppy pad is left down for her.
Fiona has experienced trauma prior to coming into rescue and, as expected, she can be skittish and lacking in confidence. Earning her trust will require time and patience. The months she has spent in foster have shown Fiona that people are not bad and danger is not lurking around every corner. she has made tremendous strides and continues to demonstrate what a brave, resilient and loving girl she can be!
Fiona desperately wants - and deserves - to become the beloved family pet and is hoping her forever home finds her soon.
