Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Keene! Some of you may remember this slightly built, flashy white faced boy who came to WBCR from an Idaho shelter last summer. Adopted out to a Denver area home last November, Keene started to show a lot of anxiety and for some reason never quite fit in with his new family. So this little gem is now back with us, and after a month or two of life back in his former foster home, is once again on the prowl for the perfect family to love him forever!!
Although all of the changes definitely threw this sensitive boy for a loop, he’s now got his feet back under him and is as confident and happy as we have ever seen him. He’s definitely a sensitive, soft, reserved type, but also has a wonderful silly side that he is not afraid to show among his friends! He likes to wriggle around on his back, leap around like a grasshopper, shake the living daylights out of his toys, and yip and squeal and bark in excitement. Although he’s really overall very “adult-like” in his manners, there is still a silly puppy in there!
Keene will really attach strongly to his family and be touchingly devoted to them – he’s the only foster we know who not only bursts with excitement to go somewhere, but will whine with delight when we turn down the driveway for home, too! He is reservedly polite greeting new people, but is quite sensitive to touch and prefers to not be petted or handled by strangers – he’d rather they just give him treats! He’s very affectionate and a total snuggler with his familiar friends and family, though, and he loves to wiggle his way upside down into your lap, or curl up next to you on the couch, or just be touched by you when he peeks his head onto the edge of the bed in the morning. (He’s probably a little too mouthy and wound a little too tight for living with kids, though.) Keene is similarly levelheaded and polite but reserved when meeting new dogs, and only really lets his hair down with his foster siblings. And then he lets it rip!! He really likes to play all out run as hard as you can chasing games, wrestle, and tug with them. He also loves to go for hikes and bike rides or go skiing, and he also likes toys somewhat…he enjoys playing fetch and tug and shows a little bit of stalking and sensitivity to movement typical of the breed. He has had a bit of fun working the ducks in his foster home, too, and has proven to have talent for nosework. Keene is very at ease and comfortable out in the woods and wide open spaces, and he is a pretty physically confident fellow. Although he’s kind of delicately built, he is coordinated, athletic, and agile, and loves to race about at top speeds and leap over things. We think he would really enjoy dog sports and will make a fabulous outdoor activity partner. He’s a pretty energetic kid who will need a good amount of physical and mental stimulation daily. Once he gets it, he is happy to settle down.
Keene also LOVES to learn and is bright, attentive, and super food motivated. He soaks up lessons like a sponge and has great focus. He’s housetrained, cratetrained, comes when called pretty well, walks nicely on a leash, and is continuing to learn all about how to be a polite dog in his foster home. He also rides well in the car and lives peaceably with one very dog-savvy cat, although he does like to know where she is and direct where it is she is going sometimes!.
And yes – he is cute as the dickens to boot! He’s fine-boned, with delicate, foxy features, and weighs a slight 35 pounds – practically a lap dog! With his adorable white face and dark eyes, he is always getting noticed. His semi rough coat has improved and is now velvety soft. He is rather camera shy and his photos do not do justice to his good looks! He has a very funny little coyote bark to go with his small stature, and he will even squeal if he is really excited. Keene is full of funny little quirks, and when super excited (especially when playing with other dogs) he will sneeze and sneeze and sneeze!!!
All in all Keene is a very, very endearing little guy who will no doubt continue to blossom. He just wants desperately to be loved and do the right thing. Keene is a lovely balance of reserve and silliness, action and fun and snuggling, and he is going to make some lucky person a fabulous canine companion.
Keene is fully vetted, microchipped and lives in a loving foster home near Jackson, WY
