A lot of people say their dog acts more like a little furry human than a dog, but if you adopt one of these cute little boys, it will really be true. Why? Keep reading.
At the beginning of March, New Lease on Life received an urgent call from one of the local vet offices. A client’s dog had had a very difficult delivery that eventually resulted in a c-section. But once all was said and done, and a new litter of beautiful puppies was brought into the world, the client suddenly decided they weren’t ready for the responsibility of caring for newborns, so they packed up their dog and went home.
That’s right. They left the puppies at the vet’s office!
The pups didn’t even have a chance to meet their mother. They were simply deemed unwanted and abandoned.
Luckily the vet immediately called New Lease on Life for help. Their office was about to close for the weekend, and they had no one to feed these little ones. We jumped right in the car to go get the pups.
It’s been a long road of midnight feedings, lots of cuddling and plenty of baths, but the pups have thrived. But they have no idea they’re puppies. In fact, they don’t know what they are. When you talk to them, they sit there and listen, tilting their heads in understanding. They’ve been handled by everyone from adults all the way down to toddlers. They’re so used to being handled that they don’t even struggle like puppies usually do. They want to be carried around like babies.
But these pups won’t be tiny for long. We believe they’re Boxer/St Bernard mixes, and we’re expecting them to reach about 60 pounds as adults. That’s one big lap dog!
These are the gentlest, sweetest puppies. Besides being extremely well socialized with people, they have been around adult dogs, big and small, as well as cats. In fact, for a little while at the shelter, they were living in the cat room. A few of the kittens would climb into the play pen with them and eat their food while the puppies played with their tails. They think cats are great. When they were younger, they would even climb into bed with the cats for a nap.
The boys are not yet old enough to neuter, but this will be done BEFORE they go home with their new families. We are expecting them to be ready to neuter at 8–10 weeks old. If you’re interested in adopting, we do suggest visiting them at the shelter BEFORE they are ready to neuter so you can reserve your favorite because these boys are too sweet to be around for long.
Potential adopters can visit the boys at the shelter any time during adoption hours, Thursday through Sunday, 5–8pm, or call 330–397–8270 to schedule a private appt. After meeting them, you can fill out an adoption application. If approved, you must leave a 50% deposit ($100) to reserve your favorite. They will be neutered as soon as they are ready, and your puppy can go home with you the day after his neuter.
