5-11-11 Loren has made it through the hardest part of his heartworm treatment and his exercise restriction is over--YAY!! He is doing AWESOME now. I can't say enough kind things about Loren. I took care of him when he became very ill--force fed him and he was so good- a champion really. He has the best temperament-gentle and loving considering all the neglect and abuse he has suffered. He is going to make a wonderful companion and pet.
3-26-11 Loren's pretreatment for his heartworm was complicated by his Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever co infections. While he was doing very well, he suffered a set back on 3-19-11 / nearly 2 1/2 weeks after his Immiticide Heartworm killing injections and he became very ill. It's been a battle keeping him going, but we have thankfully turned a corner and he should be fine. Through all of his suffering, Loren has been a champion. He is going to make someone the most amazing companion once he is fully recovered. We welcome any contributions to his care.
Loren is a very handsome Lemon and White American Field Bred English Pointer. He was scheduled to be put to sleep the weekend of 1-08-11 until we found a foster home to save his life. Initial blood work shows he has a heartworm infection--but this will only be a bump in the road for us to help him get better and find a perfect home. He looks like such a sweetie and we will have him in foster care as soon as we can move him up from Kentucky. Please watch his page for further updates!
Due to the fact that many of our dogs have come from shelters or abuse or neglect situations, and unless we have tested these dogs on upland birds and feel they are confident and ready to work as a hunter with families where they will be trained with kindness and patience, we will only adopt to pet homes.
All adoptions include vaccinations, deworming, microchips, spaying or neutering, collar, leash and an information adoption packet. All IBR dogs are crate trained, housebroken, socialized with other dogs and loved on by their human foster parents. Adoption fees are used to cover vetting expenses and special need dogs' vetting care. We also require non-smoking homes with fenced in yards- traditional or invisible.
If you are interested in adopting this pet through our rescue organization, please fill out an online adoption application.
Shop for custom calendars, mugs and T-shirts at our Café Press fundraising website and choose merchandise featuring Pointers, Setters, Hunting Dogs or Friendly Mutts. All of our calendar stars are rescued dogs that would have been euthanized in shelters across the Mid-West had IBR not stepped in to save them. Your support does make a difference!!
Check out our new Ebay Store with fundraising shirts featuring several birddog breeds like Pointers, Setters, GSP's, Vizslas, and Labradors . All purchases will help off set our high vetting expenses and may also help pay for food for some of our long term senior and special needs foster dogs in rescue. Please click on the Ebay icon for more info.

Make a donation or sponsor a homeless dog. Illinois Birddog Rescue has always prided itself in not turning away any sick and injured dogs; animals that most shelters would have euthanized. We have saved many dogs with heartworm, tick borne illnesses, broken legs, missing legs, blind dogs, a new deaf puppy, dogs suffering from Parvo and especially senior dogs that may need expensive health care to help them get ready for adoption. In February of 2006, in one weekend, we brought in 20+ dogs from the Boat Mountain Tragedy, and that depleted our emergency funds. Please help us continue to help those birddogs that have suffered terrible abuse and suffering by making an online donation here:
Your donation will not go unnoticed. In addition to helping save lives, when you donate your name will be added to the Illinois Birddog Rescue Donations and Rescue Sponsor List.
Visit the IBR Home Page and browse our new online store to find out the many ways you can shop for the dog lovers in your life while helping homeless birddogs.
