Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sunset Animal Rescue prefers that all dogs have a securely fenced yard.
This blonde boy had been staying in an old factory where he could come and go and eating out of garbage cans to stay alive. My daughter and one of our volunteers had been trying to get their hands on him for 3 months! After feeding him continuously placing it on the ground, and leaving it, he finally came to Breka.
We brought him into the rescue, fed him a good meal, put him in a big Great Dane crate and he fell asleep and slept peacefully for the entire night. He was small, so we thought he was a puppy. He was skin and bones. After taking him to the vet , we learned he was about 18 months old, and heartworm negative. He was just SEVERLY undernourished.
First to get some weight on him. We fed him a lot of small meals of high quality dog food. Graduality he started to add muscle and fill out..
Now to find him a name. Breka kept saying he was about half the size of our Lab, named Yhell. So trying to think what half a Yhell would be, we named him HOOT! A happier boy, I don't think you will find! Amazing he is so sweet, especially considering he nearly starved.
We probably should have named him Hoppy. He can jump from a stand still to the picnic table where we took his picture .He looks larger in his pictures than he is. He is 19 1/2 inches at the shoulder to the ground, and is 19 inches from shoulder to the base of his tail. His weight is 37 lbs. Hoot can run and it looks like none of his feet are touching the ground. You would think he is part rabbit the way he hops! It snowed 8 inches and he loved that his 1/2 acre exercise yard was full of wonderful white fluffy stuff! He ran so fast he looked like he was floating!
Hoot would make a wonderful dog for an active family. He loves children of all ages. This would be just the dog for a family looking for the personality of a Lab but not wanting a dog that large.
Hoot is a very happy and goofy, lovable boy.
All shots including Bordetella are up to date. He is Neutered and micro chipped, crate trained, lead broken, and ready for his own loving family. He would be a wonderful dog in agility and obedience because he is a very quick learner.Oh yes, he loves to give sugar, also. and looks like he is always smiling!!!
His adoption donation is $200.00. Contact Kai Gunn at Sunset Animal Rescue to fill out a questionnaire. Contact :sunsetanimalrescue@yahoo.com" (email is fastest)or call 803-635-4252 and leave a message. We are located in Winnsboro, SC 29180, but have arraigned adoptions from Florida to Maine when the right families were able to arrange transportation.
Hoot has been OK with our inside cats, but has not been kind to our neighbors outdoor cats who like to tease him from the other side of the fence.
Our animals are all inside our home in bad weather and at night. We walk them daily and they are all lead trained before going to a new home. We feel this gets them ready for a home situation. There are no paid workers at Sunset.
Our work is to fulfill a dream of Kai, Eddie, and Breka Gunn and the late Kathryn W. Farmer.
