My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mona is a gorgeous 1 yr old small female, cream in color and weighs about 15 pounds.

She likes squeaker toys, snuggling in blankets, treats and going outside. When outside she is full of life, very playful and loves to run and explore. When inside, she doesn’t mind sitting on your lap for hours if you pick her up, but she does take a little time to relax before snuggling into the person holding her. Once relaxed she will fall asleep usually or watch TV.

When Mona came into MSIR she was thought to have luxating patella’s that would require surgery. Upon observing and further medical evaluation it was decided she was experiencing deterioration of muscles from being in a cage all her life. I’m happy to report she can now keep up with the best of best! She does the Shiba 500 with great accuracy and can take stair steps in leaps and bounds!

Mona is a good little girl but very shy and is frightened of people. She will do be best with a family that isn’t excitable, loud or overly busy. We prefer to place her with a family that has another dog since she’s taking most of her cues from our shiba Meeka. With the right training and family that has time to devote to her, Mona will bond deeply with her family. She’s learning the process of leash walking but she prefers to run in our fenced in yard. Leash training will have to continue in the forever home. She knows her name and we’re working on commands, but will need obedience training to help build her confidence.

Mona is allowed to free roam our home and is crated at night. She has been tested around older children and did well, but young children we feel maybe be a bit busy for her. We do have a cat and she has been curious about her, but hasn’t chased her yet.
