Here's what the humans have to say about me:
A beautiful face and a gentle soul.
This darling little lady is Minnie. She and her brother Mickey are two of the cutest beagles we've every seen! Both are very small; Mickey is currently 12 pounds and Minnie is 16 pounds, though Mickey could stand to gain a pound or two. They're estimated to be 9-10 months old, so they won't get much bigger.
These two babies were badly abused at their former home and they need some time to learn that all humans don't intend to harm them. They're coming around nicely, but they're not ready for a mainstream home just yet. Neither have shown any signs of aggression at all; they've never snapped or growled. They just huddle together in a corner and tremble, with Minnie hiding her face in the corner. Mickey is more outgoing than his sister and is coming around more quickly, though she does make eye contact now and will accept treats from an outstretched hand. It's heartbreaking to these these sweet innocent babies so frightened.
They're learning to be dogs again and it's incredibly rewarding to see them transform, even if they are becoming a bit mischievous. Mickey is a chewer and does not yet know what's acceptable to chew. Because of their harsh background, discipline would only set them back, so it's up to their human to be sure they can't make any bad choices. Mickey is also rather vocal and would not be well suited to an apartment. So far, he has the makings of a good watch dog, barking when someone comes in the house and when he hears noises in the basement. He also lets us know if he spots a cat. They have not been introduced to the resident cats yet, but they show a keen interest in them.
Mickey and Minnie are extremely bonded to each other and must remain together. We're accepting applications at this time and we'd be happy to keep interested applicants updated on their progress, but they're not quite ready to make the transition to a new home yet. We'd prefer a quiet home for these darling beagles, ideally where someone is home most of the time. In order to help ensure a well-matched, permanent home, we do require an application, references, a home visit, and an adoption contract.
Mickey and Minnie have been wormed, treated for fleas/ticks, tested for heartworms (negative) and are up to date on their vaccinations. Prior to adoption, they will be spayed/neutered and microchipped.
They're currently located in Mt Airy, NC, but transport to PA can be arranged.
