Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET FRITZ:
Have you ever felt you wanted to give a home to an animal that really needed it? Do you have a special love for Dachshunds? Well, please meet Fritz, a 16.5 lb red dapple tweenie Dachshund. Fritz is a most wonderful 7 1/2 year old senior doxie who is looking for a forever doxie savvy person to spend out the remaining years of his life with. He's a one person doxie looking for a one doxie kind of person. FRITZ has been at the rescue for a long time because he has some special needs and needs someone special.
You see, Fritz has a fear of people which stems from puppy-hood experiences, but he gets along great with other dogs. You just have to let him come to you, without approaching him in the face or in his kennel. He will do it on his own. Fritz is very independent. He is a very simple dog and doesn't need much. He is very playful and does listen well. Fritz has seen many of his friends come and go at the rescue while he continues to stay. He really needs to be with Doxie people. Is this you? Do you think you're a loving, doxie savvy person that could give Fritz the safe, secure and unconditionally loving home he needs and deserves?
FRITZ enjoys a good long walk and will definitely see to it that you keep on any exercise routines that you've set up for yourself. Fritz also enjoys hanging out with his human buddy, albeit on his terms...you see, FRITZ isn't one of those 'clingy' Dachshunds we hear so much about. He has one best doxie friend and is looking for just one human friend. He is a well-mannered dog of few words, though he can make himself understood when he needs to...He uses body language to let you know what he's up for and not. He'd be the first to tell you he loves to be outside and maybe catch a nap under a tree or in the sun.
Note from ODR, Inc.: Like most Dachshunds, Fritz is also a hunter, so his new home must be cat and small animal free and have a securely fenced yard for him to relax and explore in. He also is very protective and has some special needs. He doesn't play and doesn't like to be touched except when he wants it. Fritz has bitten folks who have not understood his needs or allowed him his personal space, so Fritz really needs to be the one and only fur child in a doxie savvy home with someone that is willing to accept him and love him for just the special doxie that he is. Could that be you?
OUR CRITERIA (aka the Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer no smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give FRITZ a happy, carefree life? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 hours. Please understand that we are solely volunteer run.
