My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound
DOB: 2005 (estimated)
Sex: Spayed female
Weight: 63 pounds

Elby came from the Gratiot County Animal Shelter in Michigan. She is 63 pounds, and could still stand to gain a few pounds (she is still a little skinny). She came to our home on December 8, 2010. When we first got her, she did not want much to do with us, had some accidents inside the house, and was so nervous she would just sit there shaking and whining even while you pet her. She was underweight and had hair loss all over her body (mostly her back legs - probably from scratching due to fleas). We do not know about her previous history, but you can tell she had very little human interaction, was not very comfortable indoors, and did not want to go outside by herself.

Elby is a sweet girl. She is excellent with other dogs and with all people. She gets nervous in new situations, but that gets better every time we take her out! She likes to go for walks and does well on a leash (pulling every now and then but not very hard). She loves to just sit next to you and be petted. She also loves to have her back scratched, and will let you do it for hours!

Elby is a low energy dog, and likes to sleep for most of her day. For the little bit of energy she does have, a 15-minute walk is about all she needs to use it up. She likes to chew on bones. She is good with other dogs, but she rarely tries to play with other dogs. She very rarely barks, and only sometimes whines if she has too much energy or needs to potty. She has never chewed anything in the house and does just fine in the crate while we leave the house.

We have not seen Elby interact with cats. She doesn't live with children, but she's met a few children at adoption events and she was very gentle and sweet taking treats from from their hands .

Since we've had her, Elby has been spayed, dewormed and well fed and loved. Accidents have most likely been due to a urinary tract infection that she is being treated for. She is already doing much better than when she first came here, and she improves everyday! She can't wait to have a nice warm home to call her own!
