Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sadie is 12-18 months old and a Chihuahua mix, weighing in at about 10 lbs. She was taken into Waggin’ Tails Rescue foster program after turning up as a stray at a high kill shelter in Southern Idaho.
When Sadie came to us she was severely underweight and terrified everything; it was pretty obvious that she had a rough start to life.
Sadie still has some issues, but with a continued stable environment and a loving home she will continue to grow and learn. She is still scared of loud noises and can get frightened easily. Sadie has taken to barking a lot lately (this is new behavior within the last week). There doesn’t seem to be any particular reason or cause for her barking; more like she just likes to hear the sound of her own voice.
Sadie is terrified of men if they get close to her; she will need to go to a female only household or one with a very caring and understanding man. This is behavior that can be worked on easily with treat training. She will also need to go to a home with NO children under the age of 15 as she is a nervous Nellie. She has never bitten or even nipped at anyone but with her other issues it would be easier for her and you if she didn’t have to deal with loud children.
She is doing better with potty training, but if it is cold, and it has been a lot lately, she tends to go inside instead of out, she does use the doggy door on occasion when the weather is nicer though, and she knows it's wrong when she goes in the house because she will hide when you see it. – this to can be corrected with a scheduled diet and consistency.
Sadie does display some minor good aggression with other dogs, she is getting much better about this but please keep that in mind. It is not an uncommon thing with animals that have been starved at some point in their lives like she has. She also tends to want to be the dominant dog in the household; if you know the breed you know this is a common trait. She will need to be in a household with no other dogs or at least with an owner who is willing to work on this with her.
She walks well on a lead and enjoys car rides; she loves to look out the window. She greets us every day with a big smile and kisses, she likes to be held and petted. If you’re not holding her she likes to be lying so she can touch you. She loves to be the center of attention and there have been several occasions that she has ruined the girls homework climbing on it and trying to be cute and get loves, she has done some typing on my computer as well wiggling and climbing on it to get my attention.
If you feel you can offer Sadie the kind of home she deserves please contact her foster mom Beckie at rosethorn015@hotmail.com
There is a $40 adoption fee plus the cost of her spay and vaccinations.
