Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Got drool? (saw that on a bumper sticker once) Then I am the dog for you. My name is Gracie, and I will soon be looking for a forever home to grace. I am the most classic basset you will ever hope to see. I am long and low and BIG--all 65 pounds of me. No, I am not over weight, just BIG. And I have the longest, most beautiful basset ears!! I am told that I am 6 years old, but the vet thinks I look a lot younger. I have had all my shots, am microchipped, and have had my AzBHR make-over, just like my friend Callie who is already up for adoption.
I was spayed and had 11--count them, 11!--lumps removed. All the lumps turned out to be cysts, thank Heavens. Foster Mom was pretty worried about them. I have lots of staples and stitches for now. Mom is starting to call me "Frankendog". Hope that doesn't stick!!!
I am very stranger cautious at this point, and sometimes growl a little or bark when I first meet someone. My foster mom says we will work on this when I am feeling better and can go out. I have been good with visitors at home. If you go slowly and easily, I warm up fairly quickly once I know everything will be all right. I am very loving and loyal. I like to snuggle, get lots of easy pats, and will roll over anytime for a tummy rub (both my foster sisters do that, too. Guess it's a basset thing!!) I don't mind a gentle hug, but am not too sure about tight ones yet.
I came to AZBHR when a really good friend was unable to find a permanent home for me after my original family had to leave me behind. I was a bit confused about it all, but am settling in nicely at my foster home, now that I know I am loved and will be well taken care of until I locate my forever home. I am already housebroken, and have learned to use a doggy door without problems, although I still like to be let out through the big door once in awhile. I like to bark occasionally, especially at the birds in their tall cage in my foster home (the little love bird is named Gracie, too). I get along well with my two basset foster sisters, but I haven't quite learned how to play with them yet. Penelope (also an AzBHR rescue, once known as Hope) keeps trying, so maybe I'll give her a run for her money once I get rid of all the stitches.
Until my make-over, I had a few places that hurt, so we will have to see how I do when I am all better. I came from a home with children and did well with them, but older ones or an adult-only home would probably be better for me now. Things have just been a little too topsy-turvy for me lately. I am certainly hoping things settle down for good soon.
So what do you think? Could I be the dog for you? I sure hope so. I am a really special good girl, and I would love to be yours.
