Masumi is living in a foster home, ask us about arranging to meet her.
Masumi came to us as a kitten when she was stepped on by a cow and urgently needed vet care. The hoof had sheared off her nose, part of one ear, and part of one paw. Masumi was a little fighter though who trusted us to help her. She went to a foster home where she recovered although she'll never have a normal nose. Saline drops on her nose throughout the day kept the area moist and open, allowing her to breath. We will get this plucky little cat any vet care she needs (our animals' vet care does
not affect adoption fees). She was an exceptionally lovely kitten, despite her injured face. She has a luxuriant, vibrant torbie coat and a perky expression. Her name is Japanese for beauty and purity, and it suits her! Masumi flourished in foster care and grew into a mischievous, lively, playful youngster. She has the zesty torti/calico temperament and is a little princess who runs the show! She loves playing with her feline friends, but the ideal companions for her would be easygoing cats who don't mind a little princess pushing them around. She loves people too but will also let her people know what she wants and what she likes.
Masumi has grown into a healthy little lady who shouldn't have any special needs in the long term. She will need a home that is prepared to accommodate whatever special conditions remain as she goes through her life without a proper nose. The saline drops may need to be applied occasionally on an ongoing basis. She's a bright, perky, happy, feisty little cat whose courage and fierce will to live carried her through a tough beginning. She would become a beloved family member for someone who wants to give her the happily-ever-after that she's earned.
Masumi was born around May 2010.
UPDATE:
Foster Mom said, "Masumi is quite feisty and dominant. She and Mirage (another foster cat) get along well, likely because he's a fairly mellow guy. She's curious about everything. When I go out, she watches at the window and when I come back home, she dances back and forth and greets me at the door so she can attack my shoelaces as I take them off. Then she likes to be scooped up in my arms. She'll probably always sneeze a lot, and her eyes are always a little bit weepy, but the vet said that, with her injury, the steady, clear discharge is normal. She has blossomed into an affectionate, playful, talkative, snuggly cat. Agile and zippy, she is almost as dextrous as any cat and she uses her damaged paw as much as her healthy one. She has a box she sits on so she can bat at the images on the television (she even stares into it when it's turned off in the hopes that something will magically appear!) We'll be in trouble if she learns how to operate the remote! She is very healthy with a very strong immune system. She has a gorgeous coat and she's not fond of extensive brushing but will tolerate it as needed."

Masumi dropped by the shelter one day on her way to the vet for a check up. She had a new video made in the front yard and showed again what a plucky little cat she is. She rested calmly in Foster Mom's arms and just looked around in amazement every time another movement or sound caught her attention. Despite being distracted by the new surroundings, she allowed someone she'd never met to give her pets and she enjoyed it too! Her video is below.
