Here's what the humans have to say about me:
FOSTER LOCATION: Burley, ID
We have been asked to help out a dog that is adorable but has some issues. When I was writing up his posting today I suddenly thought of you. Would you be interested in this adorable boy?
Male - 8-9 months old - UTD on shots - has been wormed twice - vet records are available - is intact
This cute boy has had a rough go of it to say the least! Meet Ziggy…
When a Good Samaritan found Ziggy he was so starved that he had no fat and no muscle mass on his body; just fur and bones. She hand fed him for 3 weeks and until he was strong enough to finally eat on his own. He is now up to about 45 lbs, which is still quite small considering the fact that he is the height of a Great Pyrenees (mostly like Pyrenees/Golden mix). Early on, he had submissive peeing, even while eating. He went ballistic when she first put a collar on him.
Ziggy does seem to have some neurological issues; he only walks to the left (circling) – no walking in a straight line for this boy. He does not have enough balance to pee like a male dog. He squats like a girl. For him to sit, requires patience as he loses his balance. He can't raise his leg to scratch his ear. He struggles with balance. He has been taken to the vet and his opinion is that he has such scarring on his brain left from malnutrition on its brain that he will probably never fully recover.
What Ziggy lacks in physical attributes, he makes up for in temperament. He absolutely loves attention. He has been around small children (ages 18 months and up) and loves them. Becomes a bit protective of them - not aggressive protection - but watches over them. He has a quirky tilt of his head all the time. He's really a nice dog. Still has a lot of puppy in him and has a bit of a chewing problem. Sometimes gets his head stuck between the pillows on the couch and has to rescued.
He's a goofy little guy, but nice. Does the puppy jump thing, but understands "No." Walks pretty decent on a leash, his biggest problem appears to be balance. We believe he has a good quality of life, he's just going to be a little quirky. Will require someone that will spend time with him and understand he is a little slow to learn. He doesn't bark much, is housetrained if you keep him to a schedule, is crate trained. Has been with other dogs - boxers mostly and with cats - he is curious more than anything else.
He is a sweet boy who just needs someone who is willing to give him a chance to live out a happy, contented, well fed, well loved rest of his life.
If you think you can offer Ziggy the home he deserves please contact Waggin’ Tails Rescue volunteer Deb at 208-260-1646
