My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tallie is a 3.5-yr-old female Border Collie. We will post a complete bio on Tallie when we learn more about her. (Note: Tallie will not be placed in a home with children).Meet the zippiest girl in WBCR - Tallie! She’s a fast, energetic, herdy kind of girl – and gorgeous too, in case you didn’t notice! If you like the classically intense members of the breed, you are going to LOVE Tallie.

This beautiful rough coated 4 year old girl came to us from a shelter in Utah a few months back, wound pretty tight, and has been settling into life as a well cared for dog in a loving foster home ever since. Unfortunately, we know nothing of her past, but we can guess it might not have been the greatest. Nonetheless, Tallie is putting that behind her and is showing herself to be a lovely dog filled with potential.

All in all, Tallie is a fairly confident girl who is now pretty comfortable in her own skin and is a bit of a free spirit. While she’s not super people focused, she is politely friendly when meeting strangers. Like a lot of BCs, although she’s more of the aloof type with new humans, she will likely attach to her people strongly. Tallie’s hand-down favorite, however, is movement – any and all kinds of it! She loves to chase the other dogs in her foster home while they play fetch, and will relentlessly pester the cat. (Yes, a cat-free home would be best for Tallie.) If there’s nobody to chase, then she is happy to play fetch with you…and if that’s not an option, she will entertain herself by tossing toys in the air and catching them. Her foster mom tells us, “She is the first foster we’ve had that we’ve had to retrieve her toys from the tables!” We took her to a herding instinct test and she had a good time once she realized it was ok, and certainly showed potential on sheep. She also enjoys going for walks, swimming, and running – she’d likely love to live with a jogger. Like a lot of BCs, Tallie is very sensitive to touch, and although she has made great progress on this front, she will need adopters aware of this and willing to continue acclimatizing her to handling. Tallie is a bit mouthy when excited or anxious as well; given this, her touch sensitivity, and her strong interest in movement, she will not be placed in a home with kids. She’s a higher energy gal who will need a good chunk of exercise daily to be happy.

Tallie has the typical BC smarts, sensitivity, and responsiveness, too. She’s already housetrained and cratetrained, walks nicely on a leash, and shows very good off-leash potential. She will thrive in a home where she can be a member of the family, with people who will include her and help her continue to develop. We think she’d do very well as an only dog, and would really benefit and likely really come into her own with the kind of one-on-one attention an only dog receives. Adopters willing to continue working on the basics would also be wonderful for this girl, as would additional socialization.

This fabulous spitfire deserves nothing more than an adoptive home to call her own, who loves her and appreciates her for the Border Collie she is! If you are looking for a herdy girl to be your lifelong companion – and have a little time and patience to devote to getting to know and appreciate this classic girl - Tallie may be the one for you!

Tallie is fully vetted and living in a wonderful foster home near Loveland, CO.
