My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In February 2006, Brutus came to us from a shelter in Birmingham just before his scheduled euthanasia date. He came to the shelter as a stray, therefore his history is unknown.

Brutus is ~12-18 months of age and is an extra large dog. He is solid black, has huge feet and 'soft' ears. Brutus is affectionate and still very puppyish in a lot of ways. He's rather clumsy still - like someone trying to walk in shoes too big for their feet. He loves to be loved and petted on and he is very sensitve and responsive to training.

About ears...Some folks find soft ears unattractive in shepherds. This is a fairly common problem that plagues dogs that are very large. As a pup, the ears are just too heavy for the dog to carry erect. If the ears are splinted or taped before the age of six months, they can be assisted to stand. After that the ears are permanently creased making it basically impossible. Soft earred shepherds are usually deemed as a mixed breed because many people are unaware of the ear carriage issues this breed has. Having said that, GSRCA cannot be positive of Brutus's purity since we have no history on him.

When we got Brutus he was heartworm positive. He has just completed his treatment, has tested negative and is on monthly preventative. Post written 04-29-06

This dog is crate trained, neutered, up to date on shots and heartworm tested negative. Adoption application, home visit, and $250 adoption fee are required. Please read our adoption requirements on our home page.

After reviewing GSRCA’s adoption process, please fill out the application completely. This is the first step in our adoption process. No adoption will be considered or discussed until the application has been received.
